The World of Nil is a separate space that is accessed by the Genesis Zero spell.

Description[]

The World of Nil appears as an endless gray void and is home to black phantoms, known as the "Travellers of Nil" (無の旅人 Mu no Tabibito), who serve the Mage who summoned them by opening the Gate of Wraith Wail (鬼哭の門 Kikoku no Mon). The space is accessed by casting the Genesis Zero spell, which unleashes the resident phantoms to drag the users' targets into their world. Victims brought over into the World of Nil float there helplessly until eventually their soul, memories, and very existence is erased, rendering them into nothing. Escaping from this abyss of nothingness is near-impossible; the only two seen instances of successful escape were when the victim in question burned his way out via superior Magic and when the caster was distracted enough before the gate was fully closed, allowing the trapped target to break free.[1][2][3]

Trivia[]

  • The World of Nil is only visually depicted in the anime and never seen in the manga.
    • The anime uses the term Mu no Sekai, which would be transliterated as 無の世界 (with 無 translatable as "nothing(ness)" or "nil" or "zero").
