Wed (ウェド Uedo) is a member of the Dark Guild Fire and Flame and is noted to be its "No. 2".

Appearance

Wed's full appearance

Wed is a rather tall and broad individual who, like a knight, keeps themself clad from head to toe in medieval plate armor, including a helmet shaped like an inverted pentagon that has two upwards horns on the forehead and a Y-shaped ocularium in its middle. From the back of the helmet emerges Wed's lengthy mane of hair, light in color and flowing down their back. A light-colored cape is tied with a single brooch over their left collarbone (such that it hides their left arm) and reaches below the knees in length, contrasting against the Mage's ankle-length skirt that is itself dark in coloration, covers Wed's armored legs near-fully, and has frayed edges. At least two dark belts on Wed's upper body seem to serve the purpose of strapping Wed's sword to their back, and an additional, lighter-toned waist belt features a rhombus-shaped buckle carved with an arrow cross symbol.

Personality

Wed is shown to be highly confident in their own combat prowess, proclaiming to be the number-one swordsman in all of Guiltina, and is eager to prove as much against a worthy adversary. Thus, Wed sought out Erza Scarlet due to believing her to be number one with a sword in Ishgar, so as to determine who between them is more powerful. While conceding that Erza wanting to wield her sword not to be the best but for her comrades' sake was an admirable stance to take, Wed insisted that battle may come at any moment, and one should always be prepared.

Wed clashes with Erza

In the port town of Hawthorn, while Wed's allies Brian, Raj, and Lecka are busy capturing Natsu Dragneel to deliver the Dragon Slayer to the Fire God's Castle, elsewhere Wed faces down Erza Scarlet, whom they want to defeat personally. Forgoing a self-introduction, Wed draws their sword, which is promptly engulfed in flame, and locks blades with Erza. After just a few clashes, Erza's own blade shatters apart, to her surprise. Swiftly deciding to don her Flame Empress Armor in response, the two Mages continue to cross swords, with a swing of Wed's sword sending a wave of fire at a ship docked behind Erza, setting it alight. When Erza inquires about Wed's identity, the latter merely responds that Erza's reputation as a master swordswoman precedes her, noting that she is Ishgar's number-one sword user, which Erza denies, and that such a status mirrors Wed's own as the best sword user of Guiltina. Wed goes on to state that the two's battle is to determine which of them is stronger, which Erza brushes off as a matter in which she has no interest, though she also declares that, while her blade serves only to protect her friends, she will not back down from a fight.

The fight then proceeds, with Wed and Erza fiercely clashing. Erza manifests her Armadura Fairy armor and performs an attack enchanted with Heavenly Body Magic, prompting Wed to respond with their "Flame-Killing Overlord Sword" technique, shattering the ground before the knight, blowing away nearby houses, and destroying Erza's armor. Wed notes that Erza is at her strongest when bare, revealing the fact that the knight has looked into Titania's past accomplishments to know of her swordsmanship prowess. Just then, the duel is interrupted by the arrival of Misfortune, who reveals that "it's" starting sooner as expected, hence why Wed ought to retreat. Wed, however, concludes that this is all the more reason for the fight against Erza to be settled. Wed goes on to mention his Guild's plans to prepare for the beginning of the "true" Dragon King Festival, by which time the knight will no longer be able to settle things with Erza. The two opposing Mages then notice a pillar of black light rising upwards in the distance where the Fire God's Castle is located, leading Misfortune to again urge Wed to head back with her. Now agreeing to return with the fire cat, Wed claims to look forward to meet Erza again should fate allows it.

Magic and Abilities

Fire Magic (火の魔法 Hi no Mahō): Like all members of Fire and Flame, Wed specializes in Fire Magic, which is channeled through the sizeable sword that the knight owns.

• Sword Magic (剣の魔法 Ken no Mahō): Wed's particular brand of Fire Magic appears to be a blend between it and Sword Magic, via the knight's large "Flame Sword". Wed is capable of projecting fire from its blade and can thus cut and burn an opponent at the same time, all the while causing potentially great destruction to the surrounding area.

Master Swordsmanship Specialist: Wed's preferred way of fighting is with a sword, and the knight proclaims to be the number-one swordsman on the entire continent of Guiltina. Sure enough, Wed has proven able to fight on equal grounds against Erza Scarlet, whose own mastery of the blade is among the greatest in Ishgar. The knight even shattered one of Erza's blades before continuing to trade blows with her after the woman had brought forth her Flame Empress Armor, along with two new blades at once to match Wed's single blade.

Equipment

Wed's "Flame Sword"

Flame Sword (炎の剣 Honō no Ken): Wed's weapon of choice is a large, double-edged, two-handed broadsword that appears to be enchanted with Fire Magic, such that, at Wed's will, it becomes enwreathed in flames. Thus, it becomes a weapon capable of burning as it cuts, releasing waves of fire when swung that incinerate whatever lies in their path. The sword has also proven itself durable, enough so that one of Erza's swords shattered upon clashing against it, to the S-Rank Mage's shock; thus, Erza felt forced to use her Flame Empress Armor to resist the flames and continue crossing blades with Wed.

Wed using the Flame-Killing Overlord Sword

• Flame-Killing Overlord Sword (炎殺覇王剣 Ensatsu Haōken): Wed utilizes the equipped sword's flaming blade by raising it overhead, then swinging it downward in the direction of a given target. This attack is strong enough that it, when used against Erza, it shattered the ground in front of Wed, blew away several houses, and destroyed one of Erza's strongest armors.
