Ur (ウル Uru) was the teacher of Gray Fullbuster and Lyon Vastia, as well as Ultear Milkovich's mother.[1] She sacrificed herself by using Iced Shell to defeat Deliora.[2]

Appearance[]

Ur was a woman of average height with a slim, curvaceous figure. Her irises were black and she kept her dark purple hair at chin length. Her hair was normally quite unkempt, cascading down the sides of her face and covering her ears. Only a few strands of her hair hung down her temple, some falling between her eyes.[3][4]

Ur's training gear

Due to her training methods, Ur wore light clothing in the cold weather. She wore a short, tan jacket with a dark brown collar and cuff and two breast pockets. The pockets could be closed by buttoning the small flaps above them to their front. She used to leave her jacket open to reveal a maroon tube top below it, partially exposing her midriff. She wore a pair of black jeans and a belt with a scaly design and metal buckle. Her outfit was completed by a pair of simple brown shoes.[5] Her underwear was her training gear, consisting of a green bra coupled with a pair of green panties. Both undergarments had lime upper borders with a pattern of dark triangles running along below them.[3][4]

Personality[]

Ur, during her time with her daughter, was a good, caring and loving mother. While she trained Gray and Lyon, she was upbeat, cheerful and slightly abrasive. She cared for both of her pupils as her own sons, though she became extremely angry when Lyon asked her if he was enough to take the place of Ultear when he learned about her taking Gray as a pupil, causing her to strike him in anger.[6] She also scolded Gray for stripping in public.[7] She was also very humble, as seen when she said that there were many other Mages stronger than her, despite others seeing her as being capable of being one of the Ten Wizard Saints.[1]

History[]

The Power That Becomes Life

Ur holding her newborn daughter, Ultear

When Ultear was born, Ur had felt a light shining into her heart and dreamed of a future full of hope for her daughter. One day, Ur discovered that Ultear had too much Magic Power, which was causing her to have a fever, so she took her to a doctor. The doctors from the Bureau of Magical Development pretended to treat Ultear, but in reality, they kidnapped her. When Ur returned for her daughter, they lied to her, saying that Ultear had died and her body was too ravaged for Ur to look at. Devastated, Ur did not accept her daughter's "death" and tearfully asked them to return Ultear back to her, but later, she finally accepted the doctors' lies.[8][9]

Ur then went to live in the mountains.[10] Lyon was her first pupil, but she took Gray in as her second pupil after Gray's hometown was destroyed by Deliora.[11] After some difficulties, the two began to bond and Ur saw both Lyon and Gray as her own children. She then trained them in the ways of Ice-Make Magic, in which one of the training trials required the three to strip, which is supposedly why both Gray and Lyon have a stripping problem.[12] Some believe that she took them in to replace her dead daughter, but she denies this, and claims that she only thinks of them as her beloved pupils.[6] As she used to take care of two kids, the others thought she was their mother, which was why men didn't approach her. She didn't seem to be bothered, though, which was seen in a flashback where she stormed away angrily after a shop owner told her it was time to start thinking about her own happiness.[13]

Ur saying Goodbye

Ur saying goodbye

When Gray ran off to defeat Deliora on his own to avenge his deceased parents, Ur intervened.[14] It was during her battle against Deliora that she told Gray that he and Lyon were everything she needed to be happy, and that she had come to get that happiness back.[15] She used Iced Shell to seal Deliora forever, but it had caused her to become the ice that is necessary for the process to go on. She believed that Lyon would spend his life trying to unfreeze her so he could fight her and be recognized as superior, as it was Lyon's lifelong goal. So, Ur made Gray to tell Lyon, who was unconscious at that time, that she was dead, although her body had only become ice.[2]

Historia Ur arrives

Historia Ur is summoned by Neinhart

Conjured up by Neinhart's Historia of the Dead from the memories of her former disciples during the battle for Hargeon, Ur's manifestation strolls up to fight Gray and Lyon after nonchalantly laying waste to some of Fiore's forces.[18] Mocking their abilities, she easily overwhelms them[19] and matches them attack for attack.[20] Eventually, the duo is able to combine their efforts to land their first resolute strike on their opponent;[21] however, Ur's apparition is banished upon Neinhart's defeat, signalling the end of the icy battle.[22]

Magic and Abilities[]

Iced Shell

Ur using Iced Shell

Ice-Make (氷の造形魔法(アイス メイク) Aisu Meiku): Being someone who has mastered the Magic, Ur practices Molding Magic: Ice-Make. This allows her to mold any type of object from ice.[12]

  • Ice-Make: Shield ((シールド) Shīrudo): Ur performs the indicated hand signs and forms a shield of ice that resembles a frozen wave crashing against a cliff, that was frozen.[23]
  • Ice-Make: Leg: Ur created a leg made of ice to replace her missing limb that Deliora had taken.[5] (Unnamed)
  • Ice-Make: Rose Garden (ローズガーデン Rōzugāden): Ur releases chunks of ice in the form of roses and thorns towards her opponent which will attack and freeze them, rendering them unable to move.[4]
  • Ice-Make: Ice Geyser (氷欠泉(アイスゲイザー) Aisu Geizā): Freezing the ground in front of her, Ur creates a tower of ice spikes that impales opponents, greatly damaging them.[24]
  • Ice-Make: Rosen Krone (薔薇の王冠(ローゼンクローネ) Rōzen Kurōne): Ur creates giant roses and spiked branches made from ice that surround and bind the opponent.[25]
  • Ice-Make: Ice Volcano (氷の火山(アイスボルケーノ) Aisu Borukēno): Ur slaps her hand onto the ground, causing the very earth beneath her opponents to gape open in the shape of a pit. Snow, hail and large blocks of ice erupt out of the crater, severely damaging her opponents and laying waste to the surroundings. The force of the eruption was enough to not only completely negate Gray's Ice-Make: Ice Geyser, but also to throw back Gray and Lyon during the battle for Hargeon.[20]

Ice Magic (氷の魔法 Kōri no Mahō): Ice Magic allows the user to manipulate or create the element of ice, often freezing whatever the user comes into contact with. Little is known about Ice Magic, as there have only been a few spells used so far.[2]

  • Iced Shell (絶対氷結(アイスドシェル) Aisudo Sheru): An extremely powerful yet fatal Ice Magic Spell. The only known user of this spell, Ur, used it in order to seal the demon Deliora. Ur initiates it by first forming a stance which will then force a large amount of Magical power to surround her, transforming her body into ice. Four large Magic seals will then form around her target, allowing her to surround them in ice and keeping them bound for an indefinite period of time. It is said that, from that point on, she will live as ice forever.[2]

Immense Magic Power: Ur has a high level magical capacity. It's been previously stated that, if she were still alive, she would have been a candidate for the title of Wizard Saint, a title given to the ten most powerful wizards deemed by the Magic Council.[1] She was considered the strongest Mage in her country thanks to her ice based abilities.[26]

Quotes[]

  • (To Gray Fullbuster) "Someone... once told me to think about my own happiness. But I don't think I look unhappy at all. Ain't that right? I have two cute pupils... growing everyday... vividly spending each day. I'm happy enough. I came here to get that happiness back."[31]
  • (To Gray Fullbuster about her lost leg) "It's gone, but don't worry. Don't you think Creation magic is wonderful?"[5]
  • (To Lyon Vastia) "Lyon, I told you this before; there is always someone better. If you visit some of the western countries, you'd find tons of Mages stronger than me. When you surpass me, you'll just have to find another goal, right?"[32]
  • (To Deliora) "I won't let you get closer to my pupils! This is it, Monster!"[33]
  • (To Gray Fullbuster) "I want Lyon to discover the world; Gray, you too, of course. You don't have to be sad. I'm alive. I'm eternally alive as ice. Step into the future. I'll seal your darkness."[34]
  • (To Lyon and Gray about Ultear) "I felt light shining in my heart and I dreamed of a future full of hope for her. I was so happy then. From this tiny little body... the future holds infinite possibilities. The power of life... I couldn't stop the tears from overflowing... This child is proof of my life... My tear."[8]
