Tenrou Island
Tenrou Island (天狼島 lit. Heaven Wolf Island) is the holy ground of Fairy Tail Guild, as stated by Makarov [1]. This year's S-Class Wizard Promotion Trial is held on this island.
Climate and Area
Tenrou Island is well-known for its hot climate, which is not effected by other climates and weather systems on the mainland. Wendy said it's because convection, which keeps temperatures high all year long [2].The lower half of the island is full of natural caves, which form a large, underground labyrinth. On the surface, the island is covered by rich, tropical jungles and waterfalls. It is likely to become a battleground when Fairy Tail takes on Grimoire Heart.
Barrier
The Island is normally hidden by a strong barrier, making it impossible to find no matter what magic one uses. This is because there is a highly classified secret regarding Fairy Tail hidden there.
Flora and Fauna
Tenrou Island is covered by lush, green vegetation, and has extremely tall trees. The crown of these trees have grown intertwined overtime to create a "second" island, which has large, arbor-like plants on it. Enormous, aggressive animals live on this island, some looking like pseudo-dinosaurs. Apparently, a few of these animals can speak in human language as well.
Makarov says, that on Tenrou, excluding other wild animals, live real fairies.[3]
Trivia
- Its name has the two kanjis which are also the first two characters in the name of Sirius, The Dog Star. Sirius is the brightest star in Canis Major, one of the eighty-eight modern constellations from which all of Lucy Heartfilia's Celestial Spirits thus far have been derived. This may play a role in Lucy's importance to this story arc.
- Makarov also said that, this is the resting place of Mavis Vermilion, Fairy Tail's first master.
- Zeref currently lives on this island.
