That makes sense and is probably (hopefully) correct. However, it's speculation and cannot be added. {{User:Rauleli/Sig4}} 20:07, December 8, 2011 (UTC)

Manga Version

Since the manga's version of uranometria is different from the anime's, I think there should be section describing the manga version. Rauleli 16:53, March 20, 2011 (UTC)

Can you provide a chapter and a page please.  Iam...JakuhoRaikoben  18:41, March 20, 2011 (UTC)

Uranometria

Uranometria manga version

Personally I would add it as a trivia point, though I wouldn't add an entire section for the manga version unless you got the ok from an admin.-- Iam...JakuhoRaikoben  19:10, March 20, 2011 (UTC)

Heavenly Body Magic

Isn't "Urano Metria" an Heavenly Body spell? It's based around astronomical objects and it has also the same Magic Seal! --Bogota X 21:36, August 9, 2011 (UTC)

It probably is but putting that would be speculation. It will remain uncategorized until it is confirmed otherwise. RelikzRelikz Talk 22:09, August 9, 2011 (UTC)

Stellar Spirit Magic

Hibiki Laytis states in chapter 144 page 16

"Just a little further and I would have fallen to the darkness, but your bonds with your stellar spirits enveloped me in so much light... I know you can use this magic..."

This and his previous statement that Urano Metria is a top-level spell indicates that only a top level stellar magic is capable of casting it. (However this alone would be too shallow to be called a fact on its own.)

Going further with the reasoning, the incantation in chapter 144 page 17 can be divided into two parts by implied meaning. The first would cover most of the incantation:

Measure the heavens, and open them wide...
Through the shining of all the stars of heaven,
Make thyself known unto me
O Tetrabiblos...
I am one with dominion over the stars...
Release thy aspect, a malevolent gate

In this verse the name Tetrabiblos appears. The real Tetrabiblos is a text on the philosophy and practice of astrology, written in the 2. century AD by Ptolemy. The work is one of the longest standing theory on sciences, which even today has a huge effect on its subject. Based on this information and the meaning that the incantation carries there is a clear implification that the caster is requesting a gate opening as a stellar mage (Release thy aspect, a malevolent gate; it is as brightly there as daylight) to an entitiy that has has all the knowledge of the stellar magic (stars, constellations and astrology in Fairy Tail terms). Of course the request of the gate opening would arise the question who is the stellar spirit opening the gate, and having all possible knowledge to stellar magic there is. I think the answer would come just as fast: the Spirit King. (Right now I would not like to go into any further deep speculations and over this, but chapter 262 page 19 and 20 when the Spirit King opens the gate for the team he says "All the start will bless you on your way," and I would be interested how close the Japanese wording of the Uranometria recitation and this sentence of his are. Anyone can help?).

As for the latter part of the incantation:

O eighty-eight signs...
Shine!
Urano Metria!

The real Uranometria is the short title of a star atlas produced by Johann Bayer. It was published in Augsburg, Germany, in 1603. It was the first atlas to cover the entire celestial sphere. Basically this, along with the information we have so far (there are 12 golden keys, which are the Zodiac, and all stellar spirits themes and powers are going along their gate names, which are all names of constellations from Uranometria) allows us to deduce that there are 88 stellar spirits, of which 12 are the zodiacs, the leaders of the spirits and the most powerful, and 76 minor spirits. With this the implied meaning of the incantation is most likely that, by casting Urano Metria all of the stellar spirits power pours through through the opened "malevolent gate" to cause harm to the enemy of the caster.

Well, that is about my reasoning. Thank you for reading and your work! László Jávorszky 07:34, December 8, 2011 (UTC)
