Heya...how do you know that guy's name? It wasn't mentioned in the chapter? o_O188.8.131.52 13:46, April 11, 2014 (UTC)
- here. 13:47, April 11, 2014 (UTC)
Oh okay...must have read another translation...thank you. :-)184.108.40.206 13:49, April 11, 2014 (UTC)
- Not at all~ Panda's translation (which was released first) didn't have a name, but they also had a cut off version of the title for next week, so whether their translation can be trusted is always iffy with us. As always though, we will wait for the raws of the chapter and inspect the name ourselves to double check :) 13:53, April 11, 2014 (UTC)
The raw says his name is マルド・ギール (Marudo Gīru), which is also the transliterated Japanese name of a kind of polearm called a "Mard Geer" (as Crunchyroll calls him). Immblueversion (talk) 17:08, April 16, 2014 (UTC)
I'm all up for the change, let's ask Chaos, though?17:27, April 16, 2014 (UTC)
Chaos says to vote.17:17, April 20, 2014 (UTC)
i dont like either :318:22, April 20, 2014 (UTC)
I know you're all going to hate me, but I just want to see what you think.
I said in my summaries that Mard was using a Curse when he used Alegria and I know Wrath for one disagrees because he changed it, but I think I was correct. First, Mard's rose thorn Curse thingy seemed to be made of the guild building (see page 10 bottom panel of MS) as he (to me) deformed the walls and turned them into the vines to attack Kyouka. Second, Silver (in multiple translations, see here) comments on the guild transformation by saying "what a boring Curse/actually using such a ridiculous Curse" etc.
As such, I think Mard should be noted as having the ability to manipulate Cube on a small or large scale depending on his wants, and that it is a Curse. Perhaps not his main one, but a Curse non-the-less.
Thoughts? I'd just like to know for future references and so I can change some of my summaries I typed last night/alter what I type in the chapter summary so everything is in sync throughout the Wiki.

Wrath read another translation and corrected himself. ( ._.)/

The way I see it is Mard's curse is to animate earth, as with those vine-like things made from the stone walls, and I see Pluto Grim as one of his spells that let him animate all of Cube.
I wouldn't list all that stuff Reli said, but I definitely agree.05:33,4/29/2014

Hello~ *adds another discussion to the pile that most probably don't give a feck about* So...Mard Geer has like a bunch of different translations for his alias (冥王 Meiō), and after a quick discussion with Chaos (like a month ago, lol), it said that all these different translations for Mard's alias were all equally as correct as the other. Now, I think we should actually pick one, because in a few places some are used interchangeably. So...what the translations are, are as follows.
- Option A: Demon King
- Option B: Underworld King
- Option C: King of Hades
- Option D: Dark King
Personally I support B - Underworld King since Tartarus is a pit beneath the Underworld, and how many times have they said shit like "The gates of the Underworld/Netherworld are opening?" Anyway, sound off if you give any sort of care. (/._.)/ Ahh, Mega you sho sexy.
00:06, May 26, 2014 (UTC)
B - Underworld King - What you said... Also, since we use Kodansha's titles for chapters... and they call him 'Underworld King', we'll completely avoid the issue of having different names throughout the wiki as far as Mard goes. Guess it's just me, but I still hate the fact that on the list of chapters, we use Kodansha's spellings even if it contradicts actual spellings in our articles. *realizes that this is completely irrelevant* Well anyway... I like Underworld King ( o_o) 00:16, May 26, 2014 (UTC)
I like the first one a lot, but King of Hades just has a nicer ring to it.
Gosh~ *Orgasms* But Mard sucks. Gosh, that guy is sooooooooo ugh. Mega out. :) *Rips Misk's face open and takes his eyeballs* This. Is. Konoha!!!!

As you vote and think that King of Hades sounds kewl, just keep in mind that many, many stupid people exist and visit our wiki daily, and that we do have a character named Hades.
00:27, May 26, 2014 (UTC)
- And stupid people exist, many of whom would think that Mard is literally the ruler of Hades. =)
00:31, May 26, 2014 (UTC)
Demon King is meh. Dark King is meh. I'm in the middle of the Underworld King and King of Hades, but since I'm fond of 'blank of blank' as aliases, I would have to go with King of Hades -.
And by the way Mega, you sound really gay. 12:29AM, May 26, 2014
Support A - C and D are definitely out for me. C reminds me of Grimoire and D could refer to any Dark Guild really >__> B is not bad, but it just sounds reaaaally clunky to me... doesn't roll off the tongue :/ As such, I support A the most, though if B wins, so be it. 10:41, May 26, 2014 (UTC)
Support A - I think it sounds unique and different, option C reminds me of Hades from Grimoire Heart and option D sounds too plain <.< option B is okay, but in the end, Demon King sounds better to me. -- 23:08, 5/26/2014
- Hades is a god, and he ruled over Tartarus and the Underworld. The fact that it translates as "Hades' Island" is a nod to the fact that Hades basically owned Tartarus and the Underworld, hence the apostrophe, which designates ownership. Tartarus (pit beneath the Underworld, remember) is on the island, and Cube is called "Hades' Island" because of that mythological fact. Calling Mard the King of Hades basically says he is the ruler of a god (or this guy as some people have said). I have always found the calling of the Underworld and it's various other parts "Hades" inappropriate because of this. *ends mythology rant* ... ( ._.)

Support - B - I kinda'd like A since it contrasts with "Celestial Spirit King", but B seems to be a bit more logical, so I would go with that one.
We all have read the latest chapter of Fairy Tail Galaxia Blade and we witnessed Mard Geer become petrified into stone from reverse Algeria. Do you think it would be better if we changed his status from 'Active' to 'Incapacitated'? He is currently unable to fight in his current state (and he won't be able to go anywhere) so would it be better to put him as Incapacitated? Thank you, --Etweens96 (talk) 15:04, June 5, 2014 (UTC)
Enhanced agility or acrobatics?
During his fight with the Celestial Spirit King, Mard Geer jumped up almost to the Spirit King's face level (that is a damn high jump) to avoid a blow from the big guy's sword and also did some somersaults while casting his thorn spells. So should his "Curse and Abilities" section include "enhanced agility" or "enhanced acrobatic skills" or something?
Let me be clear that I'm not arguing whether he called himself "Mard Geer Tartaros", because the translation of the sentence 我が名はマルド・ギール・タルタロス (Waga na wa Marudo Gīru Tarutarosu) is pretty unarguable. But looking at the current chapter's recap of the previous chapter, it seems that the name "Mard Geer Tartaros" specifically refers to his Etherious form (I have a clip of the Crunchyroll translation here). Yeah, there's the argument that since this is his true form, then "Mard Geer Tartaros" is his true name, and thus the article should be named the same. But that would raise the question, why not rename Hades to "Precht Gaebolg" or Angel to "Sorano Aguria"? I leave the decision to you. Immblueversion (talk) 19:09, November 19, 2014 (UTC)
Well, if Tartarus is actually his surname, then we would add it. Like how we never knew of the Take Over Sibling's surname and just referred to them by their first names. Precht and Sorano use their Dark Guild names because those are the names they are known by, within the series and by the reader.
19:29, November 19, 2014 (UTC)
Basically, we use their "current" names. If Oracion Seis started referring to each other with their real names some time in the future, then I'd start thinking about renaming their articles.20:08, November 19, 2014 (UTC)
Etherious Form Immense Durability...?
In his etherious form, Mard took a hit from Ice Make Gungnir and Fire Dragon's Brilliant Flame and then fell from a height of several metres to the ground below and got up without a scratch... He then went on to say that he was merely entertained... So should his etherious form abilities include "immense durability" as with Tempesta and Torafusa...? 220.127.116.11 14:44, November 23, 2014 (UTC)
He dodged Gungnir, but yet, he should have Immense Durability17:50, November 23, 2014 (UTC)
Natsu commented on him being invincible or something so yeah, I guess Immense Durability should be listed.

Double first name?
Here's something I've been wondering. In Japanese and the official English translations, all characters (even himself) refer to him as "Mard Geer", never just "Mard". Seems like he has a double first name, like Mary Jane. Should we write the articles accordingly? Immblueversion (talk) 16:56, February 7, 2015 (UTC)
Speculation.17:01, February 7, 2015 (UTC)
- Is it speculation to point out that not one of the characters refers to him as "Mard" whenever they say his name? Immblueversion (talk) 14:08, February 13, 2015 (UTC)
- No, its speculation to state in his article that that means Mard Geer are both names when it hasn't been state so. 16:18, February 13, 2015 (UTC)
In chapter 389 Mard Geer just poked Stings White dragons roar and it bent around him. Shouldn't it be mentioned in his abilities that he can do that. - SW 09:41, August 29, 2015 (UTC)
Shouldn't Mard be classified as a Master Hand-to-Hand combatant instead of expert? IMO. Since he could hold his own against three Dragon Slayers at the same time although he was hit sometimes.
Minor question; where do you reckon would be the best place, if any one specific, to put a note about Mard Geer's link to Hell's Core and the relevant contracts? (e.g. History, Curse and Abilities, both?) Inept Wiki User (talk) 11:01, September 29, 2015 (UTC)
Honestly, we have zero details about how that works so I think a line in History will work the best11:05, September 29, 2015 (UTC)
