Gray Dead?!

In the end of chapter 334 grey seems to be killend. He was pierced with alot of shots and also was shot in the head and the narrator said something that life sacrifed.

So at least his status should be marked as unkown but I think, that one of a main character will leave us.

Personality Section

Just thought I'd give input that in the 'Personality' section that the comment put in about Juvia towards the end of it where it says "he started developing feelings towards her, which he preferred keeping a secret" is not really proven or fact.

It has not been stated anywhere withing that referenced manga chapter (Chapter 376.5, Page 22) that that is true. It's merely speculation or someone is just reading into that mini chapter too much. Because, like I said, it has not clearly been stated to be true. 22:24, April 5, 2014 (UTC) Guest

There was this one scene where they were riding back to the guild after failing to protect the ex-councillor, where Gray is consoling and encouraging Juvia. While it might not be outright love, it's clear that he feels at least something for her, even if it's only a deep friendship, so I think we can leave it there. Ice Trail

This discussion is closed. The result of this discussion is:
Gray's Ice Trail summary will go under his history.
Please do not edit this discussion.

I think we should decide where Gray's Ice Trail synopsis will be written, since we've decided to include the Ice Trail series on the wiki.

    1. One choice is somewhere in the history section, after Gray's parents are killed and before he meets Ur. after he parts with Ur before joining Fairy Tail
    2. Another choice is in the other media section, since it's not Mashima's work and whether the storyline is canon or not can be questioned.
    3. A separate section, like how we did with Yuriy, as Carry suggested, but in this case this is a bit tricky, because the timeline this story happens is supposed to be between 2 parts of the history section; Deliora destroying his village, and him meeting Ur, and this goes in between.
    4. Add a note to Gray's page, saying that after his training and before joining Fairy Tail he took part in many adventures, and redirecting to the Ice Trail page.

So what do you think?
RavenMest.pngSting Anime Square.png(S)talk14:21,9/15/2014

I'm up for B for the exact reasons you mentioned. Miskos3 Message 14:31, September 15, 2014 (UTC)

Mangastream states that Zero and IT are written under his supervision, mp means the stories are decided by him with inputs from others, just that Zero is drawn by himself while IT is drawn by his assistant. MS considers both to be canon. This is, of course, just their opinion, but saying that this is not a work of Mashima might be jumping the gun. If he decides the complete storyline himself while just the artwork is left to his assistant, this would be canon, right? In case this is considered canon, maybe the history section can be limited to uptil Ur's fight with Deliora while everything else, including the childhood flashbacks, goes to Synopsis? Otherwise it'd make History too big, though I'd vote for history. Considering IT is all about Gray, maybe just create a link from History to Ice Trail saying, "Many events take place during Gray's journey after Ur's death and before he enters Fairy Tail. These are described in the Ice Trail manga." Or something like that? Just to keep the History section from getting to long. --Sane Lunatic (talk) 14:52, September 15, 2014 (UTC)

So... is Ice Trail's story being written by Mashima a proven fact or not? Because if it is, then giving it a subsection in History section is the best option imo. Miskos3 Message 15:13, September 15, 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, if we have info about Mashima assisting in this work that would work. As for the other suggestions, the thing is, we cannot put the childhood flashbacks to the Synopsis section, because the synopsis only consists of the timeline beginning with the first chapter of the manga, and everything before that goes to History. (Also note that AioM is not only non-canon stuff, some of them are pretty canon) However, your idea for redirecting from Gray's page to the Ice Trail page for those events is pretty good, so I'll add it as an option.
RavenMest.pngSting Anime Square.png(S)talk15:17,9/15/2014

First of all, Ice Trail happens after Ur, not before. The story is in between Gray losing Ur (and Lyon) and Gray joining FT. Second, I remember we agreed that we would take the same steps for Ice Trail that we took for FT Zero. Relikz TalkUser Talk 15:43, September 15, 2014 (UTC)

How is that possible? It still happens between 2 different sections in the History paragraph.
RavenMest.pngSting Anime Square.png(S)talk15:44,9/15/2014
It happens after he parts ways with Lyon and before he arrives at FT. The info should just be placed after the paragraph that ends with Lyon leaving and before the paragraph that starts with him going to FT.-- God · Pray · 16:02, September 15, 2014 (UTC)
So #1 that is? RavenMest.pngSting Anime Square.png(S)talk16:05,9/15/2014
I think that would work best as it is being overseen by Mashima. If he is involved, its canon and should be reflected as such in the page-- God · Pray · 16:11, September 15, 2014 (UTC)
I'd still like a confirmation that Mashima is indeed involved more than just nodding to whatever his assistant draws Miskos3 Message 16:24, September 15, 2014 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but until we get full confirmation that Mashima decided the plot for this story, then I say leave it in AiOM. AiOM is not a place where we shove non-cannon material, it's just a place we put things that don't fall under any particular arc. IT could be considered Gray's history if Mashima was the one who wrote it, but again, that would need to be confirmed before we took that route. Iam...    JakuhōRaikōben19:55,9/15/2014

Actually, the way we did it with FT0 works here too. We just do what we did with Mavis' synopsis - go look at the end of Tenrou Jade arc. So, we'd just stop Gray's history at "Ur in the process as she lived on as the ice encasing Deliora." and then start whatever the hell we're gunna call this arc in synopsis, ending it with the rest of the history flipped into present-tense. However, I too am still questioning the canon-ness of this entire story, and, as I give literally no fucks about Gray, I'm not too fussed about where this ends up tbh .-. ☆°・*CarrotSays...*・°☆ 13:20, September 16, 2014 (UTC)

The problem here is that all the flashbacks would also have to go in Synopsis, I'll just call it 'Childhood Arc' for now. But then, for consistency's sake, everybody mentioned in those flashbacks, from Natsu to Makrov, will have to have that change made in their pages. Unlike Mavis' flashbacks, Gray's are intertwined with many other characters. For Mavis, uptil now, only Warrod and Precht are affected. For Gray ... it's quite a lot of other people. Comparing Zero and IT won't really work here, imo anyway. That's why I still think it should go into History and, to not make the History section too long and considering IT deals almost exclusively with Gray, should just be mentioned, providing a link to the IT page. Only my opinion though. ... And there should be a rule against hating a character at least on the poor character's own talk page. XD --Sane Lunatic (talk) 18:01, September 16, 2014 (UTC)

What exactly would be considered a good source? I'm guessing that just being published in the FT Monthly Magazine or scanlation sites like MS saying it's canon aren't enough, while I think Mashima said in his Twitter that IT was illustrated by his assistant, which might mean that Mashima is the author ... and it might not. ... Is there a Mashima Twitter stalker or something like that who can help here? --Sane Lunatic (talk) 18:01, September 16, 2014 (UTC)

Alright, so I think all opinions have been stated, so I suggest we vote so this discussion can be finally closed.... the options stated are:

    1. AioM unless there's confirmation that Mashima is involved
    2. Finish Gray's History with his training with Ur, then have the Ice Trail arc in the synopsis, then his early years in a separate section, then the synopsis continues as it is
    3. Add a note to Gray's page, saying that after his training and before joining Fairy Tail he took part in many adventures, and redirecting to the Ice Trail page

Okay, so something needs to be done about this. This either needs to be put in synopsis or history. Like how I initially wanted with FT0, I want Ice Trail in the history. We have characters like Gildarts showing up, and we can kinda trim it down so that it fits in the history. It is in his past, and anything that happens before the main timeline is history. Never mind how Magi wiki does things, they treat Sinbad no Bouken as it is because their flashbacks pertain specifically to people that basically existed before anyone else.
WrathYou...wanna talk..?Zero 19:03, October 9, 2014 (UTC)

If it can be trimmed down to fit in history like a proper history section entry fits (i.e. no detailed synopsis) then put it in history. Whatever we're going to do, we need to decide now. This discussion has been open way too long. Iam...    JakuhōRaikōben19:58,10/9/2014
As far as we can see for now, it can be easily trimmed to fit in History. Example as of the first two chapters:
  • After beginning his journey as Ur wanted, he was able to save a girl named Nano Leaf from being used to hatch a Devil's Egg to further the evil ambitions of the Chrono Noise guild, also destroying the egg and the guild in the process.
On the other hand, if some details from this story prove to be important later, maybe in FT itself, this issue might have to be revisited ... --Sane Lunatic (talk) 20:13, October 9, 2014 (UTC)

Should be done the same as was done with Mavis' page. in the synopsis Relikz TalkUser Talk 20:00, October 9, 2014 (UTC)

If so, what about the sections in History which are written using the flashbacks? Would they go into Synopsis too? If so, for the sake of consistency, would anybody else involved in those scenarios and having them in History have to have those scenes moved to Synopsis too? For Mavis, it's only Warrod and Precht, for Gray ... there're many. So prefer History ... --Sane Lunatic (talk) 20:13, October 9, 2014 (UTC)

After reading over Gray's history, I'm inclined to agree with Wrath and Lunatic. Gray's history is far to extensive for what was done with Mavis's page to be done with his. It's just not feasible. Iam...    JakuhōRaikōben20:22,10/9/2014

So ... now what? Start adding in History or hold another vote? 'Cause this Voting section got turned into a discussion in the end ... And can the first choice be slashed off or at least rephrased to something like, "AioM: Putting in Synopsis could be bothersome and too long for History." --Sane Lunatic (talk) 05:28, October 17, 2014 (UTC)

Regarding on using "Gray" or "Grey"

Even if official subs/manga trans. render it it as "Gray", its possible that his name could use either spelling when anglicizing it from "Gurei".

When using it for the color, "gray" is the main USA spelling while "grey" is the main UK spelling.

Personally, I might go with the official spelling.--Kadmos1 (talk) 17:10, May 30, 2015 (UTC)

Anglicizing his name into Grey is in fact possible, but, in order to be consistent with anime and manga, it would be better if his name remains the way it does now.

Avatar ruse

Why do we have to put (ruse) beside Gray's affiliation to Avatar everywhere? In fact, why anywhere? The fact that it was a ruse doesn't change the fact that he was an official member of Avatar. More than anything, it just seems to exist to reassure people that Gray isn't evil, which can be gleaned from the plot. 'Tis not the purpose of the tables in which (ruse) is being used. I don't really see a reason to uglify aff, nav templates, Avatar's charts, etc. I mean, Silver was also more of a ruse than a willing member of Tartaros. ._./

Gray Fullbuster; human?

Should Gray's race be changed to half human, half demon? Or are we still under the theory that it was just an phase that was not permanent? Since in the Anime I know it was revealed that he was half demon (whether he had it in his blood prior or it was from when his father transferred his magic) but I am not so sure about the manga. Please correct me if I am wrong. I have not watched every single episode of Fairy Tail. And to expand on that, Gray's father was 100% human as well, not Deliora. He uses devil slaying magic, which has the side effect of making you into a demon like how dragon slaying magic makes you into a dragon. However, Gray's demonification was halted, or has slowed down. But until such time he says, "Yes, I am about [x]% a demon and [x]% a human now because of my magic," he will remain just as being human.

I'm confused as to why Gray is just an expert at hand-to-hand combat. He and Natsu are evenly matched, and Natsu's listed as a master at it. So should Gray be listed as a master or should Natsu be listed as an expert? I support the former. ( 03:57, July 16, 2016 (UTC))

Honestly I'd just scrap the whole notion of Expert and Master as the two cover far too wide a scale of capability and yet at the same time are difficult to distinguish between. Instead I'd recommend using a scale with Very Competent at the top for the likes of Jacob, Hades and Laxus, then degrees of Capable - very capable, slightly capable, capable, slightly incapable and very incapable - for average-ish fighters and finally Incompetent to Very Incompetent for the not so good fighters. I don't know if that would be a good scale Derax, despite the fact that you are right about the similarity of Expert and Master, but what do we have else ? And how can things like Incompetent and Very Incompetent find their ways into articles ? I can't think of characters that might have that other than the characters that didn't even fight, even Lucy would be at least something capable. But other than that, the anon does have a point, it might be just the inconsistency of the writing, but I agree that both Natsu and Gray should have the same level of H2H.

I have a question. Could anyone let me know if they found Gray's full appearance in his current arc in color? I really appreciate it but I highly doubt that there is no because the anime hasn't gotten to the manga yet.--Jennicious (talk) 08:03, July 23, 2016 (UTC)
