- Sorry about that; I shouldn't have simply deleted it. Instead, I've referenced them in the correct way by putting the <ref> </ref> tags around your references. Although I have deleted two of them because they don't directly appear to reference anything and they're not that needed, to be honest. Dalyup! 17:11, December 30, 2009 (UTC)
also in chapter 165 when mira is mentioning hes taken on 10 year missions, in 2 version ive seen they say:
"Because no one can complete it within 10 years, so its called a 10 year mission".
"Furthermore it's said he's given the task to undertake a 10 year job, too". "there isn't anyone who's been able to achieve that kind of job before, that's why it's designated as a 10 year quest".
now im waiting on frankyhouse to see what they will come out with the the second statement heavily implies it DOESNT TAKE 10 years to complete it BUT its so hard that it may take 10 years (indication as to why he is back after 3 years). whereas the first can be read as it TAKES 10 years (which i doubt since anyone can do it in ten years then). i am leaning towards the second one as him completing a "10 year mission" in 3 years makes him a freaking bad arse - which is how he is portrayed.
need to wait for 166 to confirm --AJoker 03:45, December 30, 2009 (UTC)
Some of this is kinda, assumption based, all we have ever heard is maybe 8 sentences about him ever, maybe you should not ass assumptions until next chapter -Umi
- Indeed, some of it does seem to be speculative. However, we'll know by next chapter as you said. Dalyup! 17:11, December 30, 2009 (UTC)
All of the Chinese Scanslation states that the former is the correct one. (The one that says no one can complete it within 10 years.)
His Magic was reavealed
A smashing Magic.
Just a thought of curiosity here, his "crash" magic seems to be "crush" when read in the katakana writing supplied, is it?

"Ivan Dreyar (presumably)" Based on what? I don't think a dislike is enough to assume that, we should take it down if it's speculation. ZeroSD 19:21, October 9, 2010 (UTC)

Should we note that Gildarts has a striking resemblance to Shanks from One Piece? --KiumaruHamachi 02:52, April 24, 2011 (UTC)KiumaruHamachi
Actually, he looks excactly like Shanks in appearance as well as character, however it is not something important! It shouldn't be mentioned! Ari@n 21:39, May 18, 2011
Since we've decided that the trivia won't go on, I'll close the discussion.
Durability against the crimson lotus
Both the manga and anime only showed part of his cloak getting burnt off, physically there were no signs of injury. If this is the case then why did it say slightly injured in the fights article and no major signs of injury in this one? Shouldn't it be changed.--SalmanH (Talk) 08:24, October 1, 2011 (UTC)
Rave Master trivia
In the Rave Master arc where Haru gets onto Doryu's ship, the first opponent sent to fight him uses Crush magic. However, it's based on the same principle of turning whatever it comes into contact with to small pieces, and if you check out the manga, the way things are disassembled is similar. If I'm not mistaken, it's chapter 115. I can't get much info on the guy, so I didn't edit it in. Anyway, this is trivia fodder. Just thought maybe someone would be interested so I'll leave this here?

On page 1 and 2 of chapter 241 his haircolor is depicted as brown rather than red. Does anyone actually know if there is any official artwork that features him with red hair? i was just wondering if the red hair is really just a screwup from the anime people, also taking into acount that Fairy Tail Zeref Awakens features a similar hair color as the chapter. --Cosmikaze 15:26, June 5, 2012 (UTC)
It's red, look at the cover of Chapter 208. ✦Rai✦16:04,6/5/2012
Well you seem rather sure, and i'm not gonna start a huge argument over it, but I would like to point out that you have found one cover page where his hair is red, and looking through the manga myself (just skimming for color pages, so I could easily have missed some) i havn't been able to find any more where he has red hair, where as I have an actual color page from the manga, a color cover page, official artwork from the game to support brown. Also take a look at the volume 28 cover, looks brown to me too. --Cosmikaze 18:50, June 5, 2012 (UTC)
Is Gildarts a Guild Ace? I was looking at Magnolia Town wiki, and looked at the section about Gildarts Shift and it said something about like Gildarts the Ace member...
But on here, it says he's just a S-Class Mage. Then it also says Ace of Fairy Tail in the Alias section.. So what is he? Guild Ace or just S-Class Mage?? —This unsigned comment was made by ShinShinTo (talk • contribs) .
Look at this. 19:11, September 12, 2012 (UTC)
Should we add the fact that Marakov said Jura would be a match even for Gildarts in terms of their magical power? From my perspective, it sounds like Marakov is saying that Gildarts would still have the upper hand, if he were to fight Jura, one of the ten wizard saints.--Zero62422002 (talk) 14:40, October 14, 2012 (UTC)
Speed or Teleportation?
I still doubt that he used teleportation magic , i thought he was just so strong or high level that all the minions find it so fast, the same way as goku fights with his enemy, they are not teleporting all over the place its just that they are so fast for other people to see, which i think is the same for gildarts. we already know gildarts is a very strong mage, not just as the fairy tail ace but also known all over the place based on his title from the said chapter. Lastly if he can really use teleportation magic then it should have been mentioned or it will just be like an unnamed magic that we freely gives a name into it.16:00, October 27, 2014 (UTC)
its just speed. all super strong characters in every single shonen do it.17:31, October 27, 2014 (UTC)
By the way guys, I wanna ask something. In terms of combat speed, is it fair to say that Gildarts can move faster than the speed of light? Because in “Fairy Tail: Ice Trail” Chapter 4, Gildarts is shown dodging beams of light (or lasers) from that Guild Master, Drum Bee from the Dark Guild Five Bridge Familia. But I’d like you to confirm this. Zachary1969 (talk) 20:11, January 22, 2020 (UTC)
Unfortunately Fairy Tail: Ice Trail was not made by mashima himself and he also did not said it was canon so it's hard to base what happened in that spinoff to be an actual thing gildarts can do or not. Keep in mind multiple spin offs has been made but only two of them were created by mashima himself and has been confirmed to be part of the main fairy tail series, namely fairy tail zero and fairy tail 100 years quest.03:11, January 23, 2020 (UTC)
I'm actually curious as well, since you can clearly see him in ch 165, unless whoever put 166 thought that it was just a figure, not an actual appearance... if that makes any sense. I'm actually not sure what we consider a 'debut'. Anyone? o,o17:12, March 10, 2015 (UTC)
Maybe someone had only the Mangapanda version and they "forgot" the last page again and later nobody noticed until now. ^^
Joking aside, I think it should be changed to 165 since it's very clearly Gildarts. The appearance itself is quite obvious already, but they talk about him before and on the very same page where we see him. NoNickNeeded (talk) 17:16, March 10, 2015 (UTC)
I don't really have any idea about this, but ... a question about debuts in general. Do we give a debut according to Chapter chronology (by which I mean Zero Chapters before IT Chapters before Mainline Chapters), relevance (Mainline greater than IT equal to Zero) or give debuts by considering all three different, so that, eg. Gildarts has a Mainline and IT debut? --Sane Lunatic (talk) 17:21, March 10, 2015 (UTC)
Real time chronological I would assume so main story takes precedence unless they debuted in a spinoff before appearing in the main story--
an advanced magic?
All throughout this article whenever crash magic is mentioned it is always described as a "highly advanced" or "extremely powerful" magic, where is this coming from?
"highly advanced" yes no doubt it is an excellent type of magic, but what decided it is more or less advanced than say ice make, or heavenly body? where in the manga is it confirmed that crash is an "advanced" magic, in what way is it advanced? At some point in this article it seems to mention it is "highly advanced" in that "even a mage as powerful as gildartz has trouble controlling it"........ guys, right from Gildartz's introduction they have made it clear that a character trait of he's is that he is CARELESS, he dosn't know how to hold back, that how he disassembled Natsu, and he is also very powerful, that combined with hes carelessness is why when he absentmindedly walks through the town he will walk THROUGH the town, if things part at hes arrival, he hasn't needed to watch were hes walking for a long time.
As for "extremely powerful" Yes Gildartz has used crash magic for impressive things, but could it not be more likley that GILDARTZ is powerful? Stronger mages cast stronger spells, the range and power of Natsu's fire dragon roar has gone up after the one year time skip, heck many mages have gotten stronger. Seomeone weaker than Gildarts probably couldnt just use crash to split a city in half, so then, it is not crash that is powerful, it is Guildartz, so writing something like that I feel is just really incorrect and it should be taken of the page. --18.104.22.168 05:31, June 12, 2015 (UTC)
It is described as an advanced type of magic on the cover of Chapter 167 by Hiro Mashima himself, but in what way is Crash not a powerful kind of magic? The way you're wording it means that almost no magic whatsoever is powerful. Crash allows you to nullify another magic and then increase the strength of your melee attacks, among other things. It says right in the article that if the user is careless then Crash can leak out. This is just another example of extremely powerful. If you have to be focused all the time to control the magic so it doesn't, I don't know, level a town, then it's powerful. There is a difference between a magic being inherently strong and dangerous (hence the reason it is advanced; it is hard to control) and someone training so that their meager or originally weak magic becomes stronger. What we have written is 100% true.
08:56, June 12, 2015 (UTC)
No no I agree it is indeed an excellent type of magic, the ability to smash incoming magic alone is a huge advantage, but can we truly attribute all the things we've seen crash do to the magic as opposed to Gildartz own immense magic power? Could another mage who uses crash be able to punch Drum bee or blue note as far as Gildartz did?
Yes some magics are more advanced than others, written magic is not as combat applicable as dragon slayer, the basic levels of transformation magic seem simple enough for a lot of mages to grasp, hevenly body's "Sema" spell is not the sorta thing anybody looks able to cast, but is it write to say crash magic is extremly powerful, when it could be Gildartz is extremly powerful? Gildartz has also been shown to take out huge monsters with one punch, but the punch is more impressive the more crash magic you infuse into it, other crash mages who are not as powerful as Gildartz, might not achive the same results.
And, perhaps crash magic leaks out of Gildartz, not because it needs constant focus to keep it inside, but because Gildartz himself is both carless and he has alot of magic power. --22.214.171.124 00:29, June 15, 2015 (UTC)
most powerful spells are rendered useless
Even the most powerful spells are rendered useless when faced with this destructive and advanced Magic, Which spells are those? It would mean he is the strongest mage in the universe if no spell can affect him. It needs to be elaborated further or downplayed. Rizgubi (talk) 22:04, November 27, 2017 (UTC)
He can use his magic to match powerful spells and rendering them useless, if you checked the manga reference it was referring to bluenote's black hole spell but throughout the series he also did it in the anime and the manga listing them one by one is unnecessary since hes been doing it almost every time in a fight and no just because he can use his magic to make other magic useless against him does not make him the strongest mage, coz even fighting acnologia who uses dragon slayer magic he still had hard time and lost some limbs.03:03, November 28, 2017 (UTC)
