Shalulu? making more sense than Charles?

I know her actual name hasn't been confirmed but does Shalulu make more a accurate sense to her name pronunciation-Sharuru- instead of Charles?

1) they say ~Sha which kinda does match with Cha~ but

2) The ~ruru which they say in the anime comes out in english as lulu ( since the L's name the R' sound )

+ plus maybe if it was Charles wouldn't her name be pronounced? "Shāruzu"

-- This is just a suggestion, but I can understand if you don't get my reasoning. It's just a thought I recently got and I wanted to know what people thought about it. --JRB--

The letter "u" is silent in japanese so her name would be pronounced as, written in english, "Sharl", which is Charle. RelikzRelikz Talk 18:10, June 18, 2011 (UTC)

I actually rewatched the OVA, and during her appearance in the opening sequence, her name is shown to be pronounced "Charles." Not only that, but I looked up the general name as it's spelled in Japanese (シャルル) on the Japanese version of Wikipedia, and it states that it's the Japanese equivalent of "Charles." (There's no actual English equivalent to this page on Wikipedia; looking up "Charles" in English leads to the name チャールズ, not シャルル). Is there an official source, or any reliable one for that matter, stating otherwise for the character's name? Or are we just not going to go through the trouble of renaming "Charle" as "Charles"? Immblueversion 02:31, September 1, 2011 (UTC)

Well, it was decided that we would use Charle. I believe we recieved the translation Charle from ChaosKnight (if i'm not mistaken). And while it could very well be Charles, it won't be changed to Charles until we get confirmation from the English version of her name released by Kodansha. It's not a matter of "trouble" as changing Charle to Charles would be childsplay for my bot.  Iam...JakuhōRaikōben  02:38,9/1/2011

Like Immblueversions said, "Sharuru" is how Japanese pronunce "Charles" in their native language. But until volume 16 is out, her official english name is still unconfirmed... I'm still working on translating the name origins on volume 27, and perhaps it may shed some light on her name (though hers is one of the tougher ones to translate). Hey, what happened? Why did change from Charle to Carla?? Dragon NJMB 10:48, December 10, 2011 (UTC)

I think that it's her official name given by Mashima.   BHappy ChibiJ   10:51, December 10, 2011 (UTC)

I don't think it's an official name given by Mashima, but it was a name given in a volume whereas a previous one was a fan translation so we're going with Carla until we have the official (hopefully Carla is the official).  Iam...JakuhōRaikōben Shunsui  13:46,12/10/2011

But in Eternal_Fellows, Carla's name appears like Charles. And where Carla appeared in the manga???.Dragon NJMB 02:55, December 11, 2011 (UTC)

Eternal Fellows is an anime opening, not an official manga volume. Also, Carla appeared in a recent volume not in a fan translated chapter.  Iam...JakuhōRaikōben Shunsui  03:14,12/11/2011

Fairy Tail's Studio Animation is adapting from the manga, so they should find "Carla"'s name in the manga somewhere. And tell me, where did Carla's name appeared romanizated in the manga)?. Dragon NJMB 05:01, December 11, 2011 (UTC)

Of course you wouldn't find it in the manga. All the chapters on the web are fan translated.   BHappy ChibiJ   05:08, December 11, 2011 (UTC)

The name Carla was the official name given by Mashima. If you want to learn more visit our Naming Policy Relikz Relikz Talk (Talk Page) 12:29, December 11, 2011 (UTC)

So, nobody is going to answer me? I'm asking where the ROMANIZATION of "Carla" 's name appeared in the manga? Dragon NJMB 09:44, December 13, 2011 (UTC)

Volume 16 by Kodansha Relikz Relikz Talk (Talk Page) 12:27, December 13, 2011 (UTC)

He's asking for the actual romanization provided by Mashima. Not what the English version says. SeaTerror 00:58, January 14, 2012 (UTC)

Actually, I believe he's just asking where it appeared: " I'm asking where the ROMANIZATION of "Carla" 's name appeared in the manga?"  Iam...JakuhōRaikōben  01:04,1/14/2012

Which means he is asking where it was romanized. The English version does not count since there's no evidence that the spelling is not made up. SeaTerror 17:03, January 15, 2012 (UTC)

Even if you could prove Mashima provided the English spelling, that doesn't mean his romanization skills are any good. It could very well be Engrish romanization. As an example, give me 3 words in English that starts with a "c" but pronounced with a "sh" sound. I don't think there are any. The "sh" sound goes with "sh" or "ch". And we have plenty of evidence that official translations don't always give accurate translations or romanizations (probably to make things easier to read). I think a more accurate romanization (based on a combination of the Japanese pronunciation and the so-called "official" English romanization) would be Charla. 98.116.189.111 17:34, June 2, 2012 (UTC)

Look here, to be frank I don't care. We don't care about accurate romanizations we care about what Mashima, the author of the series, wants his characters names Romanized as. Would it be nice if Mashima actually did something right for once? Yes, but that aint happening. Im sorry if you dont like it but that's how we choose to do it on this site.   Rai  Talk     18:37,6/2/2012

Ability

Carla's ability is premonition. —This unsigned comment was made by 110.55.43.31‎ (talkcontribs) .

Indeed... So what's wrong?

-- Aldarinor Laxus Sprite Talk  Contribs  10:03, December 24, 2011 (UTC)

Chill, I never said you're wrong. It's just that Premonition is a common power as what we all saw on TV. Like Charmed, Supernatural, True Blood and Vampire Diaries. So it is most used than the term precognition. Though they have the same meaning implies, Premonition is the common term for this one. The power or ability to predict the future.—This unsigned comment was made by 110.55.36.106 (talkcontribs) .

In this wiki, we use official names given by Hiro Mashima or by correct translations. We DO NOT in any casr whatsoever go by what other shows use. Relikz Relikz Talk (Talk Page) 13:54, December 29, 2011 (UTC)

Please don't get me wrong. My concern is for the children to know what exactly this ability is like. Since "Premonition" is the most common term for this typical skill, I'm having the impression that we all should use it as a standard term. Most of the anime fans nowadays are consist of kids from all ages (as early as 3 and above to be precise). Now most of these children are capable of familiarizing themselves as to what they've heard or seen on Television. And the word "premonition" is not an exception. Since nowadays, a lot of TV program showcases this sort of power. So it is more suffice to say that with this kind of term, most viewers could see the relevance of Carla's ability to the other TV characters they have watched.

Precognition, Premonition, Scry and Super Intuition are in fact has the same attribute and that is to foresee or predict the future events. My main objective is to give an emphasis with the connection of this ability using the common term that we all know; which has been "Premonition". With that alone, I'm sure that the kids from around the world (particularly those age is 9 below) can settle. Let's be honest, not all those kids can speak fluently on English right? They only based their understanding of this matter in most television shows. We can hardly hear the word Precognition on TV or even movies... as far as I observed. So that's why I'm suggesting the use of "premonition" instead of "precognition", it is for the kids to relate. It is okay if you ignore my opinion. I deeply apologize for being so opinionated. It's just that, it’s for the kids’ sake.—This unsigned comment was made by 110.55.43.31‎ (talkcontribs) .

Again, we aren't changing the actual abilities' name to something else just because it's more commonly known as that in other shows, even if a few kids that watch Fairy Tail (which I'm sure no 3 year old do) Relikz Relikz Talk (Talk Page) 14:20, December 30, 2011 (UTC)

First and foremost, if you believed that even for a second, we would rename an ability named by Mashima simply because the term isn't popular, then you're sadly mistaken. We go by what Hiro Mashima, the author of the show says, period. Furthermore, your argument's not even solid. No 3 year old is going to be watching Fairy Tail, the show is a Shōnen, which is meant for viewers 10+ in age. Are there going to be some younger kids watching the show? Yes. Is it our problem? No. In addition, if someone by chance isn't familiar with Precognition, all they would have to do would be to read the description of the ability to find out. There is no logical reason for us to change it to Premonition. Also, for the record, I am not upset that you are being opinionated, I prefer opinionated users actually.  Iam...JakuhōRaikōben  15:25,12/30/2011

Hi guys i was just reading chapter 266 page four and happy called carla charle so should we change it back to charle or let it stay Animaltamer7Scorpio

That is just someone's translations, translations differ from translator to translator, it stays as it is.  Iam...JakuhōRaikōben  03:08,1/14/2012

I know that this debate is probably p*****g everybody off, but I just wanted to add my own opinion on it if that's ok ;P
Translated names do change often, but I think that 'Charle' occurs more often than 'Carla'. Unfortunately, I don't read the manga to be able to give evidence of this there, but this is certainly the case in the anime. Erza's name has also been known to change often, but the most frequently occuring version is 'Erza', so we use that. Why not the same for Charle?
Also, and I know that they aren't the most reliable source to use, but a number of online translators (eg Google Translate) translate Carla as Kara or something similar, and translate Charle as Sharure or again something similar. So given the fact that the romanji name on her character page is Sharuru should her English name not therefore be Charle?
This is just my opinion, I'm not demanding that you change her name or anything XD I just thought I would contribute with an itsy bitsy bit of my own evidence/thoughts ^_^ Otaku Chick Lisanna19:16,1/15/2012

Actually, it's not a matter of what appears more frequently, it's a matter of what is considered official. Mashima gives us official translations of every characters name. I believe Carla's was given in Kodansha's Volume 16, but I'll have to check with Chaos to be sure.  Iam...JakuhōRaikōben  19:55,1/15/2012

You're going to have to prove he actually does give official names to Kodansha. SeaTerror 03:14, January 16, 2012 (UTC)

Well that's too bad. It's what we go by and what we'll continue to go by. On rare occasions we deviate from it. We might do so in Carla's case since it is so heavily debated, I'll converse with a few people about it and then decide, but for right now I'm closing this discussion.   Rai  Talk     20:19,6/11/2012
