Spell Classification

Judging by the pages in the manga, it appears that Aqua Mertia, which means "Measuring the Water" in Greek due to possessing a name similar to Urano Metria, is a Water Magic spell and not an Earth Magic spell because in the next page, a large cascade of water is unleashed. -- Libratum Angelum ^{(Embrace Light)} 00:10, September 14, 2016 (UTC)

It may look like it judging by how it moves as an ocean wave but it's not water, that's earth. Scorpio didn't say it's a spell that turns the earth into water, he said it's a spell that swells the earth and surge like ocean waves. In other words, Lucy had made the solid earth move like ocean waves.Starpower98 (talk) 00:22, September 14, 2016 (UTC)

It's really odd that a fully water oriented Spirit would teach Lucy an Earth spell... I'd rather wait for the crunchy translations or better yet someone translating from the raw directly than trusting solely MS's translation on this one. NoNickNeeded (talk) 08:57, September 14, 2016 (UTC)

Yeah, from what I understood after reading Stream's version, it's kind of like Liquid Ground. Crunchy says "It's a magic that makes the land flow in waves like the sea." Miskos3 Message 09:59, September 14, 2016 (UTC)

Aqua Metria is Water Magic?

Aqua Metria is a Water Magic. It looks like earth magic is because it has the ability which is strong enough to liquidize the earth and is very similar to Hoteye's magic. However, in chapter 7 of 100 years quest arc, Lucy used it while against the Blade Dragon Slayer. Lucy was surprised and said 'She cut my water?' while the dragon slayer cut through Lucy's Aqua Metria.

This is the second time this spell became unclear if its earth magic or water magic, I don't have access to the raws to check what lucy said in the latest chapter is accurate and I am not sure if an official translation will make it clear but i can only think of two ways to deal with this.

First is that we categorize the spell under the water magic, even though the older fairy tail chapters made it unclear if its an earth or water magic, since the last 100 years quest chapter retconned it into it water magic based on the fan translation so i believe we should double check the raws first before choosing this option.

Second way to deal with this is that the spell is a combination of the two so its categorized as earth and water magic which i think falls under speculation.

What do you guys think? Coz it is better to get everyone's insight about this before making any changes all over the wiki.LightningGeist 10:20, September 7, 2018 (UTC)

I don't remember if the original had any dialogue related to this spell; on what basis did we put this under the category of Earth Magic? I mean, it's Aqua Metria and Aquarius Star Dress Spell... Why would it be Earth-based?  Miskos3 ♐ Message  13:20, September 7, 2018 (UTC)

Aqua Metria used in chapter 501 was an earth based spell not water. Scorpio describes it as a spell that makes the earth Surge like Waves. Also when Brandish sends the attack back at Lucy you can see rocks not water. Neither Brandish nor Lucy is wet after the attack. So it should be categorized as both a water and Earth Spell. Since the anime will be returning this october, what if we wait on how they will animate aqua metria? if the anime made it look like Liquid Ground then its earth magic if they animate it with just water then just like how the 100 years quest manga retconned it, it will now be changed to water or just have it be labeled under water and earth magic and we only need to differentiate them depending on what chapter they are used. This spell should be water magic. The name of it "Aqua" is based on water, not earth. And the description of it flowing like ocean waves that's also based on water should be considered as such. It just so happens to be a water magic spell that's powerful enough to make even the earth surge like that. Can't be only earth magic when in the 100 year quest it has also shown to control water too. Similar to how Invel being powerful enough to freeze Natsu's flames.Starpower98 (talk) 05:59, September 8, 2018 (UTC)

I think it should be categorized as Water Magic. When the spell was firstly used, even though it showed like earth magic but according to what Scorpio has explained, it was the ability of Aquarius and it is powerful enough to turn earth into liquid. Besides that, since this spell can be used while in Aquarius form, this means that the magic is water based since Aquarius is using Water Magic.
