Albareth Empire arc

So, it seems we got a pretty big worldbuilding chapter that introduced an entire new continent + a lot of backstory for the universe. Given that Makarov went to Albareth to stall the empire from invading Ishgar to get LH, it's kinda obvious what this arc will be about. Insivel (talk) 06:48, June 8, 2015 (UTC)

I agre! think there shuld be at least a vote for formailtes, besides Zeref mentioned this war from the last few chapters in the avatar arc too duh. so once it was made official wht the plan was for the arc in ChP 445 that should be the main idea and point of the arc cause dats the meat of it . Ragnarok arc

1. Support - The arc focuses on the war, which is called Ragnarok. Acnologia is also an integral part of the war (rather than just an extra like in previous arcs). Acnologia is participating not because of the Alvarez Empire's participation, but because it is the Dragon King Festival (or Ragnarok) of prophecy. Ragnarok is the inevitable final war which Zeref was researching and has been the motive of the Alvarez Empire, not the other way around. Many important aspects such as Natsu's past, Layla, Mavis and Zeref's past, etc. are important parts of the arc and not related to the Alvarez Empire. Rather they and Fairy Heart are related to defeating Acnologia (during Ragnarok). Fairy Tail's motive is not even to defeat the Empire, it is to protect themselves and Fairy Heart from all opponents. This arc isn't about the Empire, it's about the final war. Everything leading to Ragnarok, which is currently taking place. Alvarez Empire arc is just inappropriate. Even Defeat Acnologia arc would be more suitable considering that's what everything is leading up to. --Sane Lunatic (talk) 10:27, February 8, 2016 (UTC)

Support - I respect the fact that you're approaching this with adherence for formalities, but at the same time, Ragnarok has only just begun, and we have absolutely no clue if it will continue, or if Hiro will throw a wrench in the whole design. Arc names are supposed to encompass names that link together the myriad plot points and unite them under a single title. Barring Macao arc since it was the first three chapters, all arc names have some sort of encompassing effect. Ragnorok and/or Dragon King Festival are just certain aspects of this war. There is so much more, and Alvarez Empire is the safer way to refer to the arc as how it will unfold is, as I've said, a mystery.

I found this interesting.. peep the comment under the Natsu-Zeref art pic, Hiro refers to this arc as "Alvarez arc". Not sure if he's just being general or this is the actual true arc name, if someone had this volume in Japanese that would be helpful cause if the kanji goes like アルバレスの編 then it really might be the name of the arc, which really isn't big of a change plus it's official one from Hiro Ncduru

Wrath and I already talked about that and I think that it's just a shortened version. That page has a limit on words, after all. In my opinion, it'd be very silly to cut the name. That'd be like... Oracion arc. Tenrou arc. Doesn't seem too nice, does it? Miskos3 Message 08:00, April 30, 2016 (UTC)

My opinion still hasn't changed, and in the raw volume it does indeed say アルバレス編 (Arubaresu Hen, or Alvarez Chapter/Arc), and apparently more than once and in more than one place. I'm of the belief that if that's what the volume afterword itself says, coming from Hiro's mouth, then we should use it. I mean, it's the same amount of characters as Tartaros arc, and it's only two characters shy of Alvarez Empire, so I don't see the need to really shorten the name of the arc in a volume when Japanese is kind of a succinct language compared to English anyway. So I would love to use Alvarez arc. It's better than the one we ourselves made up, anyway.

hey guys my two cents is that we should use anything that Hiro says from his mouth that is backed up kanji, this being a great example. "Alvarez empire arc" so more complete than "Alvarez arc" but it's not our story it's Hiro's, so what he says goes in my opinion. Alvarez arc

1. Support - I don't really care which one we use cause they're both cool and technically right but I rather go with what Hiro says over what we say 95-100% of the time, if he says it should go cause it is his story, not ours so I'm down Ncduru 22:22, May 2, 2016 (UTC)
2. Support - Since when does speculation trump what Mashima says? It being a shortened name is just pure speculation. Of course there are rare times when a decision has to be made, some speculation is needed (to a degree), but when it comes to info coming from Mashima himself, who are we to speculate against it? If he used Alvarez Empire arc once and Alvarez arc once, then fair enough, obviously the latter is a shorted one, but this is not the case, and we only have one name from Mashima. From what I know, with all the arc names that have come from Mashima, I have never seen him use a shortened one. 3. Support - Shouldn't be a discussion if it was a term slated by Hiro. Shorterning a term shouldn't be a problem now of all times, because if it were, we'd have names such as Avatar Guild arc. 4. Support - lol, let's not be ridiculous. Alvarez is as much slang for Alvarez Empire as China is for People's Republic of China. I sincerely doubt that Mashima put any serious thought into giving the arc a canon name when he made those remarks, but... it's what we have. It cannot be contradicted and we do not speculate. Until he refers to it by a different name later, be it Alvarez Empire arc or the Spriggan 12 Are Asswipes arc, I don't see how we can ignore Mashima's own words. Context is very important when making decisions like these. Naming the arc wasn't the point or purpose of the afterword. It was just mentioned in passing. If Mashima had said, "Hey guys, here's a list of arc names," then I'd feel differently, but that wasn't the case. He was likely just using shorthand. Nothing more. Nothing less. 7. Support - "Empire" gives the context of what Alvarez means. Also Rai's and Phoenix's arguments convinced me. We know sometimes they call it Tenrou or w/e, but we still name it as Tenrou Island. I would not begin the vote if Hiro didn't say this directly and if there wasn't any kanji, we should 100% of the time go with what Hiro says from his mouth over our stuff cause it's his story. Not really. We're just explaining that the form of the state or institution does not have to be affixed every time. In many cases, simply the name suffices and is definitely correct. Phantom Lord is the name, Legal Guild is the form of the organization. Alvarez is the name, Empire is the form of the state... And that's the point, exactly. Slovakia is the less formal, less official name, but at least it is a name. We don't have Alvarezia or anything alike. Alvarez Empire is the name of the country, simple as that. And even if we do go as far as to compare India or Slovakia to Alvarez, I find it a little... unprofessional? Misk I agree with where you coming from fam, those shorten arc names would sound whack but it's just not our place to say what Hiro names his arcs... in his own story. In some ways this would be a different situation if this was just a tweet or an interview where he's speaking freely, but this coming from the actual volume, with actual printed kanji, coming from Hiro. Translated: I don't really know that much about voice actors who haven’t worked on FT before, but for the anime version of the Alvarez arc… if there’s some voice actors that you think totally works, i would like to know. But the original creator doesn’t have that much control over the casting so this is just as a reference.

Kanji from Vol 53 on the name: アルバレス編

My point is if you already haven't realized it is that our current arc name is wrong. At first this really was remedial so it didn't really matter much to me but after Hiro himself (if the volume didn't already prove that) tweeted the name of this arc, with all the kanji matching up, I think it's time we change it to Alvarez arc as the official name of the arc. I hate to be the one to bring it up again, but the job of a wiki is provide factual information to help visitors for information... and with that being the wrong name when we got the source from the volume, and now Hiro himself on his Twitter isn't right at all. It's no point of really discussing again cause now we have it outta Hiro's mouth literally. Idk if this should be a vote or whatever but we should change the name, adding the correct kanji. Alvarez Empire sounds more complete and cooler but it doesn't matter, if Hiro named the arc Dimaria is bae arc that's what the name would be. It's not hard to get a bot to delete a word out of the arc name on pages too, so idk if this is a support or oppose kinda thing but I Support - we change it to Alvarez arc cause putting Alvarez Empire arc when the actual name of the arc backed up with sourced and factual info here in front of our eyes is false information. I hope we can all just change the name

Side note: the anime might be back sooner than the last hiatus, if Hiro is already taking suggestions for voice actors in the anime adaption of the arc Ncduru 03:54, June 7, 2016 (UTC)

More Hiro Mashima confirmation on "Alvarez arc"

So from Hiro Mashima's official twitter we have him saying "Alvarez arc" while in Volume 52's afterword he wrote "Alvarez arc" as well. I still haven't seen any confirmation on it being "Alvarez Empire arc". Is it possible we can change this already, if not discuss it? Wiki should be as close to 100% accurate! Thanks guys. We're not gonna leave it like that forever, It's going to be updated but due to having limited editors we are currently focusing on other things that are needed to be made first such as making the pending fight and event pages, updating the latest episode pages and so on.
