The Moon is a giant celestial body in the Fairy Tail Universe.

Description

A rock-composed sphere that orbits Earth Land as well as typically a source of natural light at nighttime for its inhabitants. It has existed as far back as Earth Land has and various cultures have even cultivated celebrations around it such as a Moon viewing festivals.

The Moon has different effects on the environment on certain locations of the planet below it, such as Galuna Island which is known for absorbing moonlight emitting from it and glow just as brilliantly as the moon itself.

The moon is also implied to have magical properties, as shown via a Belianese ritual chant that gathers moonlight by concentrating its magic power at one point, causing the moon to glow purple as a beam of light comes down where the ritual is taking place; thus preforming a spell called Moon Drip that has dispelling effects on anything Magic bathed in said light. It's also said to have a mild risk of polluting the body.

The moon also has other effects on certain magic items such as the Eclipse Gate, a time machine that with enough magic power it can allow anyone to travel through time when the sun and moon are in alignment thus forming an eclipse.

Mages of Moon Dragon Slayer Magic also seemingly draw power from the moon, manipulating a form of "moonlight" energy for offensive means.

Alternate Worlds

The nature and number of the moon seems to vary between alternate worlds. In Edolas, there appears to be several moons of various colors orbiting the planet.

Elentear, like Earth Land, has a singular moon, but it does not wax or wane and is instead permanently locked in a full moon stage at all times.
