Kashima first appears at the hotel desk as a fish when Natsu's team arrived to book rooms. Natsu and Happy considered eating him until Kashima shouted "No way" and transformed back into Human, welcoming them as they're all shocked. Kashima then ran as he just remembered his date with Sharkette as he told the Mages to help themselves to the rooms. He also warns them to take the complimentary beverage left in the rooms if they plan on staying over, much to everyone's confusion and suspicions.[2]

When the water tide submerged the town, Kashima appears in fish form and informs that the drink they took was designed to help those who aren’t fishes to adapt to water and that all of the town's residents turn into aquatic creatures whenever the tide rises. When Gray asked him on the whereabouts of the Water Dragon God, Kashima got furious and suspects them to have come to attack the Water Dragon just as the previous visitors have, causing everyone fish to turn on them as Natsu's tries to escape.[3]

Kashima is having a spat with Sharkette over what happened and hates that he's still doing business with Humans. He tries to ration there are still good ones and bad ones, yet she leaves saying he should date them instead, he follows still attempting to defuse the situation.[4] He then runs into Gray, now also a fish due to Gemini's Magic, but doesn’t recognize him. Gray then asked about the previous Humans from the other day, Kashima answered threat they captured one of them.[5]

They then hear a noise, which Kashima believed the Water Dragon has descended.[6] When they search for it, they find the prisoner has been freed until Gray froze her before she could harm Lucy. Kashima was shocked to see Kiria out of her cage and Natsu's group in the open. He then revealed that the sea serpent Kiria killed isn’t actually the Water Dragon, but merely its servant that was supposed to bring him food and worries what he will be furious. Hearing this Kiria breaks free from Gray's ice now looking forward to the Dragon's arrival as she continues to battle the Fairy Tail Mages with backup from her ally; Madmole. Suddenly, a light flashes above them as the water around them splits open, everyone is shocked as the Water Dragon God; Mercphobia, descends as he pushes the water back.[7]

As Mercphobia floats on a water platform, the two Dragon Eaters are warped away by their ally, forcing them to retreat. As Mercphobia gets acquainted with Natsu's team, he informs Kashima that they are now his guests and will not tolerate anymore impoliteness towards them, Kashima accepted his decree as he takes the Mages to his palace.[8]
