Fairy Tail Gaiden: Lightning Gods (フェアリーテイル 外伝 雷豪一閃 Fearī Teiru Gaiden Raigō Issen) is a Japanese manga series by Kyouta Shibano and a spin-off of Hiro Mashima's manga series Fairy Tail. It is the third sub-series of the Fairy Tail Gaiden meta-series.

Plot[]

The story centers around Laxus Dreyar and the Thunder God Tribe, detailing their events that took place during Fairy Tail's disbandment.

Written and illustrated by Kyouta Shibano, Fairy Tail Gaiden: Lightning Gods is a weekly spin-off manga first serialized in the Magazine Pocket smartphone app on May 4, 2016, which is where the series has continued its serialization until September 14, 2016. The individual chapters had been collected and published in a tankōbon volume by Kodansha, which was released on November 17, 2016. The series amassed a total of 19 chapters and 1 omake chapter during its run.

After Fairy Tail was disbanded, Laxus Dreyar and the Thunder God Tribe decide to join Blue Pegasus and are received very warmly by The Trimens and the other members. They start their work in the guild's host club, with Laxus being surrounded by the ladies, much to his annoyance. After realizing that his comrades had mingled with the others, he attempts to leave stating that Blue Pegasus isn't for him. He is then accompanied by Fried, Bickslow and Evergreen who try to ease him. Eventually Laxus admits that he doesn't mind guild "families" that clamor around. Suddenly, Hibiki, Eve and Ren catch up for them, incredibly edgy, stating that Ichiya has been kidnapped. Flash of Great Lightning 1 Cover May 4, 2016
2. Rose-Colored Anguish
(薔薇色の憂鬱)
Following Ichiya's kidnapping, The Trimens reveal to the Thunder God Tribe about their guild's rivals, Red Princess, who always wanted Ichiya to join them. Laxus states that they should leave him to return on his own, to which they reply that Blue Pegaus's ace is weak without his Perfumes. Eventually, Laxus and the group decide to go and save him, considering him as one of their family. At Red Princess Headquarters, Ichiya is being torturing by being tickled with roses, as Master Briana attempts to persuade him to join their guild. Suddenly, the four Mages enter the guild and attempt to leave upon seeing Ichiya's undignified pose, misunderstanding the situation. 3. The Maiden Quartet
(乙女四重奏)
At the Red Princess Guild Hall, Laxus, Fried, Bickslow and Evergreen are confronted by Master Briana, and are later joined by The Trimens. Briana reveals that she considers herself the prettiest Mage, so she must find a suitable partner, meaning Ichiya. Confused by her statement, Laxus steps in, demanding that she ends this right now so they can go back, just to be surrounded by thunder clouds as the Master states he mustn't underestimate her. The Lightning Dragon Slayer is then struck by 'Cloudy Lament', as a team of four female Mages appear. They are announced to be Maiden Quartet, Red Princess' top members who are said to rival the Ten Wizard Saints themselves. 4. Lightning Magic
(雷の使い手)
As Laxus begins his battle with Maiden Quartet, the former is overwhelmed by Carol, Capriccia and Lead's lightning attacks. He then shoots his Lightning Dragon's Heavenward Halberd, just to be absorbed again by the Red Princess Mage, much to his shock. After requipping Thunder Armor, Sonnet, alongside the three girls, combine their powers into a Unison Raid, striking the Dragon Slayer with Square Symphony, damaging the surrounding area. After taking such a heavy attack Laxus still stands, impressing the girls. When Sonnet suggest they go for an "encore" the Thunder God Tribe attempts to step in, but Laxus stops them, stating he can still go further. Flash of Great Lightning 4 Cover May 25, 2016
5. No Encore

The battle between Maiden Quartet and Laxus continues, with the girls brutalizing the latter with their Unison Raid. Sonnet then strikes the Dragon Slayer with her final attack, Thunderstorm's Final Inquiry, much to Fried's and Hibiki's concern. Laxus, unaffected, then rises and strikes the whole area with his Raging Bolt. He then states that the warm up is over and it time for round two, just to find that Maiden Quartet was completely wiped off with his attack, to his shock. It is then revealed that all the previous attacks were just mere illusions. As Laxus gets angry for being manipulated the Red Princess Guild Master, Briana, decides to interfere to end this conflict. Excited, Laxus charges at the Master, who readies her Magic for the battle. As the Lightning Dragon Slayer delivers his punch, Ichiya blocks the attack, taking the fist himself. 6. Blue Toast
(青い祝杯)
After taking the punch, Ichiya flies away and falls down, much to everyone's shock. He then tells Laxus to stop fighting now, before Briana falls into tears, stating that after hurting him she can't claim Ichiya anymore. Laxus, irritated, yells at Ichiya and demands him to explain what is happening and why is he belittling him. Ichiya responds that he isn't and thanks him for coming to save him, pleased to know that they were the first ones to come to his aid. After that, the Blue Pegasus Mages return to their guild and party all night, celebrating their ace's rescue. Laxus sits away in a corner silently, much to the Thunder God Tribe's concern, before Ichiya comes to him inviting him for a drink. When asked why he's so loved, Ichiya replies that he's just handsome, leaving the Laxus and company startled. After he goes for the chant, The Trimens step in, explaining Ichiya's real "strength" is how he was able to end a conflict without Magic, adding that they trust themselves to him. 7. A Specific Request

In the Rosa Rugosa town, Laxus and the Thunder God Tribe are on a mission to guard the Yuubi Centenary Festival. The Dragon Slayer soon gets bored because of the lack of strong opponents. He then remembers The Trimens words about Ichiya's true strength in pacific solutions. They are then encountered by Weyse, the Centenary's priest, who then reveals for the group the true purpose of their mission: to destroy the town's ancient mirror, the Yuudachi Mirror. 8. A Mirror, a Reflection, and a Man

After Weyse explains the Mirror's legend to the Mages, the Thunder God Tribe attempts to destroy it, just for their attacks to be repelled due to the instrument's Reflection Magic. After Weyse reveals the ancient clan protecting the Mirror, a young man appears before the Mages, attacking Laxus. 10. Duty

The fight continues, with Nasser keeping up with Laxus' attacks. Fortunately, he manages to outsmarts the Mages and strike the mirror, shattering it. 11. Sunset Showdown

As the fight becomes dangerous to the villagers, Nasser reveals that there is only 15 minutes left before the Mirror activates. Thanks to Fried's runes, Laxus and Nasser are blown out of the village, where Laxus states that he can now beat him while his comrades finish off the Mirror, causing Nasser to activate his Magic of Young Earth to face Laxus. 12. Just Another Quest

The Thunder God Tribe await Laxus' triumph before attempting to destroy the mirror. Meanwhile, Nasser continues to brutalize Laxus in the fight, questioning his guidance. Unexpectedly, Laxus manages to figure out his opponent's weakness and starts to deliver several blows to the Mage, before defeating him with his Lightning Dragon's Jaw, giving the signal to his companions to start their assault. Finally, Fried, Bickslow and Evergreen succeed in destroying the Mirror, causing the village's ancient guardian "Higurenokami" to rise again. Weyse to startles the whole lot by unraveling the truth about Higurenokami, explaining how it may get her noticed by the Dark Mage, Zeref. Meanwhile, Laxus, after learning the truth, rages at himself but finally decides to team up with Nasser. Consequently, the two Mages head for the village to end Higurenokami. 15. The Truth Revealed

Laxus and Nasser arrive at the battered village. Before Laxus can lay a finger on Higurenokami, the Thunder God Tribe suddenly starts to attack him. Weyse, from inside her Wicked God, reveals that she used the Erosion Magic to fool the Tribe into believing Laxus was the statue and thus, attack him. Fortunately, due to Nasser's marking and his own power, Laxus manages to block the mighty attack through his own lightning, dispelling it, and thus freeing the Thunder God Tribe form the Erosion Magic. Due to the side effects of Tempester's Magical Barrier Particles, Laxus' body becomes fatigued and unable to fight Weyse effectively. Final Chapter: The End of the Story

After Higurenokami's defeat, the villagers tend to the repairs of their village, as Nasser bids farewell to the Mages. Back at the Blue Pegasus Guild Building, several Fairy Tail members appear, stating that the guild has been revived, with Erza as the new Master and that they have came to pick Laxus, Fried, Bickslow and Evergreen up. Magic[]

  • Lightning Magic (雷系各種魔法 Kaminari Kei Kakushu Mahō): An Elemental Magic, it allows the user to produce and manipulate lightning and electricity at will, having complete control over its manifestation.[3]
    • Lightning Body: Through the use of Lightning Magic, the user is capable of transforming their own body into electricity, turning themself into a lightning bolt, allowing him to transport to a different location.[3](Unnamed)
  • Lightning Dragon Slayer Magic (雷の滅竜魔法 Kaminari no Metsuryū Mahō): A type of Magic which allows the user to incorporate the element of lightning into their body, gaining exclusive characteristics that are commonly associated with Lightning Dragons. The user is capable of producing lightning from their body and of manipulating it to attack their opponents.[4]
    • Lightning Dragon's Heavenward Halberd (雷竜方天戟 Rairyū Hōtengeki): The caster raises their hands and forms lightning between them, forming a very large trident out of it. They then hurl this at the enemy.[4]
    • Raging Bolt (レイジング・ボルト Rējingu Boruto): The user raises their clenched fist in the air and chants the incantation; a large bolt of lightning will then descend upon the target from the air, possibly completely vaporizing them with a strong blast of lightning. The full effect of this technique on an individual is currently unknown.[5]
    • Lightning Dragon's Jaw (雷竜の顎 Rairyū no Agito): The user locks their hands together in a tight fist and swings them down onto the target, both smashing them into the ground and creating a destructive circular wave.[6]
    • Dragon Slayer's Secret Art: Roaring Thunder (滅竜奥義 鳴御雷(ナルミカヅチ) Metsuryū Ōgi: Narumikazuchi): The user releases a large burst of lightning from their fist, tremendously damaging target.[7]
  • Illusion Magic (幻影魔法 Genei Mahō): A Magic that was used by Red Princess prominent members to create fake attacks against Laxus.
    • Lightning Magic (雷系各種魔法 Kaminari Kei Kakushu Mahō): Through their use of Illusion Magic, Maiden Quartet was able to create fake lightning attacks against Laxus.[8]
      • Cloudy Lament (曇天の哀歌 Donten no Aika): The user summons a thundercloud that shoots multiple lightning strikes at the target. This spell can also be used indoors.[9]
      • Full Charge (充電(フルチャージ) Furu Chāji): By using a magic staff, the user can absorb lightning that is aimed at them.[10]
      • Coil Chain (雷様の縛鎖環(コイルチエイン) Koiru Chiein): After absorbing lightning, the user creates a chain made out of lightning to bind the opponent.[10]
      • Lightning Blade Secret Sword: Thunderclap (雷刀秘剣 迅雷 Kaminari-Gatana Hi Ken Jinrai): A technique that allows the user to slash their opponent with the energy of lightning.[11]
      • Charge Out (充電解放(チャ一ジアウト) Chāji Jiauto): The user releases the lightning absorbed from the staff.[12]
    • Molding Magic (造形魔法 Zōkei Mahō): Molding Magic allows the user to mold or create something by concentrating their Magic Power into their hands, like an element, into different shapes or forms.[13]
      • Thunder-Make (サンダーメイク Sandā Meiku): A form of Molding Magic, involving the creation of objects using lighting. This form of magic is capable of damaging mages who are excellent users of Lightning Magic.[13]
        • Thunder-Make: Giraffe (〝麒麟〟(ジラフ) Jirafu): The user claps their hands together and creates a giraffe that attacks the opponent.[13]
    • Requip (換装 Kansō): This Magic allows the users to store items in a pocket dimension so they can easily summon it at any time, even during battle, which gives them a high level of flexibility in combat.[14]
    • Unison Raid (合体魔法(ユニゾンレイド) Yunizon Reido): An ability that allows two or more Mages to combine their Magic to create a stronger attack.[12]
      • Square Symphony (四雷交響曲(スクエアシンフォ二一) Sukuea Shinfonichi): By combing the powers of four forms of Lightning Magic, The user at the center creates a large pillar of lightning, that rains down on the opponent and the surrounding area.[12]
      • Curtain Call (カーテンコール Kāten Kōru): By using different forms of Lightning Magic, the users create a lightning sphere around them, charging it with power before releasing several lighting attacks at a wide area.[15]
      • The Final Song: Thunderstorm's Investigation (終曲・雷雨の調べ Shūkyoku Raiu no Shirabe): By focusing all of the Lightning Magic, the user strikes the target with tremendous lightning bolts from above.[16]
  • Rose Magic: A Magic that allows the user to summon roses and manipulate them for combat. The exact uses of this Magic remains unknown.[17](Unnamed)
  • Paper Blizzard (紙吹雪 Kami Fubuki): A Magic that allows the user to create and use papers offensively.[18]
  • Human Possession (人形憑 Hitotsuki): A Black Caster Magic and a form of Seith Magic that allows the caster to seal wandering souls inside objects and manipulate them as they wish.[19]
    • Line Formation (ラインフォーメーション Rain Fōmēshon): At the user's command, the dolls gather in midair and stand on top of one another forming a line, before firing destructive beams at the target.[19]
    • X Formation (エックスーフォーメーション Ekkusu Fōmēshon): The dolls swarm in the shape of an X to block incoming attacks and objects.[20]
    • Baryon Formation (バリオンフォーメーション Barion Fōmēshon): The dolls spin around in a circle, launching a destructive beam towards the target.[21]
    • Crumble (砕 Sai): By raising their hand, the user gains control of it's target's body, before setting it off to explode by swiping their fingers down.[22]
  • Fairy Magic (妖精魔法 Yōsei Mahō): A form of Magic allows its user to produce a peculiar substance from their body: thin, light and shiny dust to attack their target.[19]
    • Fairy Machine Gun: Leprechaun (妖精機銃 レブラホーン Yōsei Kijū: Reburahōn): The user waves their arms, releasing a torrent of energy needles composed from concentrated dust.[19]
    • Fairy Bomb: Gremlin (妖精爆弾 グレムリン Yōsei Bakudan: Guremurin):The user surrounds the enemy with dust particles which are then ignited to create powerful explosions.[23]
  • Jutsu Shiki (術式 Jutsu Shiki) is a form of Letter Magic utilizing Magic Runes.[19]
    • Invocation (発動 Hatsudō): The user creates a circle of runes around the target, casting a particular spell on those inside the circle.[24]
  • Dark Écriture (闇の文字(闇のエクリテュール) Yami no Ekurityūru): A unique form of both Letter and Eye Magic that involves the writing of runes for various effects.[25]
    • Dark Écriture: Destruction (闇の文字(エクリリュール)・〝滅〟 Yami no Ekurityūru: Metsu): The user slashes their sword at the target, inflicting great damage to it.[25]
    • Dark Écriture: Absolute Shadow (闇の文字(エクリリュール)・絶影 Yami no Ekurityūru: Zetsuei): By writing runes on themselves, the user turns into a dark-colored armored knight.[26]
  • Reflection Magic (反射魔法 Hansha Mahō): A form of Magic that rebels Magical attacks and sends it back at the casters.[27]
  • Magic of Young Earth (若き魔導土 Wakaki Madō Tsuchi): A Magic that allows the user to absorb and gain power and speed based on his opponent's strength. It gives the user markings that cover their arms, parts of their chest and face.[28][29] It also allows the user to mark anyone's Magic Power with protection.[30]
    • Holy Crushing Fang: Gerusu (工二イスゲルスギイル Kōnīsu Gerusu Gīru): The user concentrates his Magic in his foot, launching a kick at the target and sending it flying.[31]
    • Guatsu (ぐあつ Guatsu): The user increases the pressure in their leg, before hitting the target, forcing it away.[32]
    • Penetrate (がつ Gatsu): The user rams his palm at his target with supreme power.[33]
  • Erosion Magic (侵食魔法 Shinshoku Mahō): An extremely ancient powerful, mass-effect Dark Magic, only accessible through the Wicked God: Higurenokami. It creates a form of illusion, engulfing every being in its radius, human or animal, in a state of constant horror and rage, causing them to fight vigorously.[34] It is strong enough to completely delude its victims, warping their perception of reality.[35] Moreover, it allows the user to absorb the negative energy emitted from the victims, converting it into tremendous Magic power for their offensive use.[36][37]
    • Erode Nega (負の侵攻(エロード・ネガ) Erōdo Nega): A new form of Magic that Weyse developed, that allows her to engulf her target in a giant pillar of darkness, filled with a multitude of dark fears and emotions, which is said to be capable of obliterating both the target's body and soul.[37]
      • Erode Nega: Chie Spear (負の侵攻(エロード・ネガ) 追撃槍(チエイスピア) Erōdo Nega Chie Supia): The user shoots several spears of dense negative energy at their target.[38]

  • Blue Pegasus (青い天馬(ブルーペガサス) Burū Pegasasu): The Guild Laxus and the Thunder God Tribe joined after Fairy Tail was disbanded.[39] It was approved by the master Bob after Ichiya gave him his recommendation.[40]
  • Fairy Tail (妖精の尻尾(フェアリーテイル) Fearī Teiru): The Guild Laxus and the Thunder God Tribe had come from, prior to its disbandment.[41]
  • Red Princess (深紅の舞姫(レッドプリンセス) Reddo Purinsesu): A Mage Guild that is the rival of Blue Pegasus. They are located in the same town and have been recruiting Ichiya to join their Guild, forcing his hand by capturing him.[42]

  • Blue Pegasus Building: The Guild Building is a large structure that is the headquarters of the Blue Pegasus Guild. It's main hall is highly reminiscent of an elegant pub, where the guild members do their daily activities.[39]
  • Red Princess Building: The Guild Building of the Mage guild Red Princess and acting as their headquarters, Its exterior resembles a great mansion.[46]
  • Rosa Rugosa (ハマナス Hamanasu): A town north of Blue Pegasus, they have a special festival, called the Yuubi Centenary, every hundred years at the Yuubi Shrine.[47]

  • Yudachi Mirror (断鏡 Dan Kagami): An ancient mirror, it is a crucial key to the success of the Yuubi Centenary. It is valuable enough for treasure hunters to go after it. Weyse requested for strong mages from guilds to guard it and destroy it.[48] It was then revealed to be a seal used to imprison the evil of Higurenokami.[34]
  • Wicked God: Higurenokami (邪神 ヒグレノカミ Yokoshima Higurenokami, lit. The God of Nightfall) is an ancient deity believed to be the Rose Rugosa village's guardian. It resembles a giant stone pillar with a horned head up top.[49] It was sealed ages ago with the Yuudachi Mirror. It possesses a powerful art of Magic called the Erosion Magic, allowing it kill a multitude of people at ease.[34]
