Blade, Armor, Ash is the 3rd episode of the Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest anime.
Diabolos' might proves to be a tough task for Team Natsu, who are battered by them in their battle over the White Wizard's location. In Magnolia, after receiving the tip from Kagura, Jellal finally comes across the roaming Touka.
Summary[]
Descending into the parted ocean, Mercphobia demands that those with ill will towards him leave. Unfazed, Kiria prepares to battle the Water Dragon despite Madmole's hesitance, only for the two Diabolos Mages to be forcibly teleported away by Black Ash.
Mercphobia accepts the Fairy Tail mages
Still doubtful of the Fairy Tail Mages' intentions, Natsu describes to Mercphobia the details of Elefseria's quest, leading the former to explain that he had previously been challenged by assassins also sent by the Law Dragon to seal him. Acknowledging Team Natsu's peaceful approach, Mercphobia invites the group to his temple.
The Water Dragon's Temple
Giving the Mages a tour, the Water Dragon showcases a number of underwater facilities with the purpose of providing for the residents of Ermina Town, as well as a watch tower for sighting shipwrecked survivors. However, Mercphobia also informs Team Natsu of his murderous past, in which he killed several humans until meeting his assistant, Karameel, a human girl of whom he'd grown fond of. Despite his contentedness, the Water Dragon admits that his powers have become uncontrollable, and are the culprit behind the town's unnatural submersion. He requests that the Fairy Tail Mages kill him in order to save the citizens, but not before he is able to correct his most critical error.
On the Diabolos ship, Kiria complains of her wasted efforts trying to find Mercphobia. Demanding that Skullion explain his actions, her guildmate simply responds that he has identified Mercphobia as the false Water Dragon.
Touka admiring Natsu and Happy's house
At the Blue Pegasus guild, Ichiya and The Trimens welcome a visiting Jellal. However, Jellal hastily inquires of Touka's whereabouts, leaving after they are unable to offer further information. While refusing to reveal his suspicions, Jellal warns the guild members to keep a distance from the woman in question. Meanwhile, Gajeel, Juvia, and Lily continue observing Touka, even resorting to stalking their new guildmate. Levy attempts to dissuade the trio, but stomps off in frustration after a disagreement with Gajeel. The group then follows Touka to Natsu and Happy's home, back to Magnolia, and lastly, to her house, discovering that she now resides next door to Lucy. Their investigation is cut short when Gajeel and Juvia fall off the two-story building, a scene witnessed by an irritated Levy.
Diabolos appears
In Ermina, Team Natsu asks of Mercphobia's intentions, to which the Water Dragon responds that he must reclaim his powers, which have been stolen by a Mage called the “White Wizard”. He then goes on to explain that he plans to use his magic to revert Ermina back to its original state, with Natsu agreeing to offer aid. However, they are interrupted by the arrival of Skullion, Kiria, and Madmole, who overhear the conversation and decide to track down the White Wizard in order to steal the Water Dragon's magic for themselves.
Still on the look for Touka, Jellal looks to Kagura for assistance. The Mermaid Heel Mage instantly recognizes Touka as Fairy Tail's newest recruit, and questions a shocked Jellal of her identity. He then admits that Touka herself is the renowned White Wizard, having been alive for more than a century and holding magic power rivaling that of Zeref.
Natsu attempts to attack Skullion first
Demanding that the Diabolos mages leave his palace, Mercphobia sends a water attack towards the trio, only for it to be disintegrated by Skullion. Skullion restrains the dragon with his magic, deeming him unworthy to eat, which in turns prompts the Fairy Tail mages' to retaliate. As Lucy and Wendy tend to Karameel and Mercphobia, Gray and Erza face against Skullion and Kiria respectively while Natsu knocks Madmole out of the ocean. However, the former's magic proves ineffective against the armor dragon slayer, who tosses Natsu onto the Diabolos ship, disabling him as a result of his motion sickness.
Erza's strength is "cut" away
Meanwhile, Erza and Kiria exchange blows, with the dragon eater commending the swordswoman's skill. Expressing curiosity over the effects of a certain spell, Kiria sends a shockwave towards the Fairy Tail mage, who at first is seemingly unaffected. However, Erza suddenly expresses humiliation over her bikini attire and is quickly intimidated by Kiria's threatening expression. At the latter's command, Erza begs for her life to be spared, at which point Kiria reveals to a shocked Lucy and Wendy that she had "cut" away their comrade's strength.
Kiria's Blade Dragon's Tearing Roar
Erza, defenseless as a result of Kiria slicing her "strength", is tormented by the Diabolos Mage shortly before Wendy launches an attack with her Dragon Force. Along with Lucy, the two attempt to fend off the Blade Dragon, but are ultimately overwhelmed by Kiria's attack, disabling Mercphobia, Happy, and Carla as well. Meanwhile, Gray faces off Skullion, with the latter utilizing his magic to turn the sea to ash before seemingly disintegrating Gray. Natsu is also defeated by Madmole aboard the Diabolos ship as a result of his motion sickness, putting all the Fairy Tail Mages out of commission.
Jellal confronts Touka
In Magnolia, Gajeel is frustrated with the results of his investigation on Touka, as well as Levy's irritation. Concurrently, Jellal approaches Touka on the streets, addressing her as the White Wizard.

Manga & Anime Differences[]
- Mercphobia's reaction to Kiria and Madmole being teleported is slightly different in the anime.
- Madmole's earlobes reach his collar in the anime, while in the manga, they stop just above it.
- Lucy stands up straight again after Kiria and Madmole start disappearing in the anime. In the manga, she is on her hands and knees until after Mercphobia tells the group that he holds no ill will towards them.
- Natsu and Mercphobia briefly exchanging glances before the latter asks if the former is a dragon slayer is cut from the anime.
- When Mercphobia recounts his killing of Elefseria's loved ones, the anime adds fiery effects.
- The anime shows a more zoomed-out view of the Blue Pegasus building, and adds a door opening animation to transition into Ichiya's intro.
- Scenes where Carla's right shoulder can be seen in the manga leave it bare instead of with her guild mark on it, creating inconsistencies with other parts of this episode, and preceding episodes.
- Each member of Blue Pegasus gets a title card in the anime.
- When Gajeel recalls how he was treated after joining Fairy Tail, the manga showed him getting beaten in the past, whereas the anime leaves out any flashbacks.
- In the manga, Levy says "Hmph" after Gajeel says she is getting in the way of his investigation, while the anime moves it to before Gajeel's comment.
- The anime uses a different scene transition to Natsu and Happy's home.
- In the manga, Touka is seen shopping before arriving at her home building. The anime also cuts out the stalkers' comments as they tail Touka to her residence, but adds Gajeel and Juvia reacting to Touka's "I'm home!" and has Touka say it again before she notes that she lives alone.
- The anime shortens the scene of Touka stripping and does not show her underwear. Additionally, Gajeel reacts to Touka stripping only once before Juvia covers his eyes, as opposed to twice as in the manga. Touka also does not make the additional comment after hearing Gajeel and Juvia falling that she does in the manga.
- In the anime, Levy touches her womb area with one hand instead of both.
- When Mercphobia discusses the consequences of misusing his power, the anime shows an image of a dragon while the anime shows the building's stone statue.
- Lucy and Wendy questioning if power like Mercphobia's can really be stolen, Mercphobia's affirmation of the fact, and Carla's follow-up after Happy's question are cut from the anime.
- The anime removes Natsu and Gray questioning if they are surrounded by sand rather than ash as Diabolos reappears.
- Kagura's outfit has a different color scheme from the last time it was shown in the anime, while maintaining the overall design difference from the manga.
- When Touka is seen bathing, the anime completely hides her breasts, and does not show her scooping water from her bathtub. When her cupped hands with water are seen, the anime shows her left ring and pinky fingers over her right ones for consistency with the next scene, correcting a small mistake from the manga where her right ring finger is shown above her left fingers.
- Less ash is present in the anime compared to the manga when the scenes switches back to Ermina.
- The manga shows some of Mercphobia's left eye when he tells Diabolos to leave. Furthermore, he throws one stream of water in the anime instead of three like he does in the manga.
- In the manga, a small part of Skullion's ash bindings are seen going into Mercphobia's mouth, but the anime has the bindings go over his open mouth instead.
- Skullion's ash disperses in a different pattern when he is first hit by Natsu in the anime.
- In the anime, Erza is seen landing before she is attacked by Kiria, who is now shadowed with Erza looking away from her as she first attacks.
- Kiria's excitement from hearing the sound of two blades clashing is toned down in the anime compared to the manga.
- Natsu is covered in flames when Madmole blocks his first attack in the anime.
- The anime censors the blood flowing out from the back of Natsu's hand after Fire Dragon King's Destruction Fist fails to damage Madmole, showing a strange black substance instead.
- The intensity of the impact when Natsu lands on the ship is lessened in the anime, with its main mast remaining intact.
- Madmole lands on his constructed passage on one foot and one knee in the anime, with water splashing around him. In the manga, he lands standing straight on both feet with no water splashing.
- The anime adjusts Erza and Kiria's duel in the following ways:
- There are more attacks in the initial clash, including two attacks where a part of the opponent's hair is cut.
- The attack Erza flips to get away from is an upward slash instead of a downward-horizontal slash.
- Erza points her blade at Kiria when talking about its strength instead of upwards while held in front of her.
- Strength-Cutting has a more clear effect, showing an apparition of Erza leaving her body and being cut vertically into two.
- Erza's blade is shown falling onto her floor after Strength-Cutting starts taking effect.
- Kiria is seen shadowed with a glowing eye and her right arm lowered when approaching the weakened Erza.
- Mercphobia is not shown when the bystanders react to Erza's strange behavior.
- Lucy does not wonder aloud the concept of cutting strength.
- Erza is seen lowering her head to the ground before Kiria steps on her.
- When Wendy intervenes, her attack shows her blasting air towards Kiria, instead of herself being surrounded by it.
- Blade Dragon's Tearing Roar does not make its targets bleed nor damage their clothing in the anime.
- Skullion is not shown reacting when Gray takes on his demonic appearance.
- In the anime, Corpse Dragon's Utter Ash has different visuals, the ship Natsu fell onto is shown near the explosion, and Gray does not point out that Skullion is turning the ocean into ash.
- Skullion does not hold his arms outstretched in front of him before casing Black Ash.
- Gray's appearance is back to normal when Black Ash is cast in the anime, while the manga shows him losing his demonic form as he takes damage. The anime also does not show him apparently turning into ash.
- In the anime, Kiria's opponent do not have any cut marks, clothing damage, or blood, and Karameel remains silent when the battles' aftermath is shown. Kiria is also shrugging and has her left eye fully covered in the manga version of the scene.
- Cana is wearing a waistcloth in the anime. In that same scene, Levy's detached sleeves are missing when Juvia talks to her, bringing her closer to her manga outfit before the next scene has the sleeves reappear.
- In the manga, there is a building jutting forward and a second archway is seen when the street where Touka is walking is shown.
- In the anime, Touka turns left with most of her body when Jellal calls out to her, whereas in the manga, she only turns her head to the right to look at him.
