Etherious (ゼレフ書の悪魔(エーテリアス) Ēteriasu) were a race of Demons that were born from the Books of Zeref.[1] They were made completely of Ethernano, with the exception of E.N.D., and were thus dubbed by Zeref as the "Etherious".[2]

Quick Answers

What is the origin of the Etherious race in the Books of Zeref? toggle section
Etherious is a subspecies of the Demon race, birthed from books written by Dark Mage Zeref. Each Etherious harbors a genetic drive to eliminate Zeref, consciously perceived as a desire to 'rejoin him.' Exclusively composed of Ethernano, barring E.N.D., they were named 'Etherious' by Zeref. This creation commenced 400 years prior, following his brother's demise, as Zeref probed the nexus of Magic, life, and death.

Description[]

Etherious is the given name to the subspecies of the Demon race that were created from the books made by the Dark Mage Zeref;[1] all Etherious possess an inborn drive to kill Zeref, established at the genetic level, which is expressed consciously as a feeling to "return to [his] side."[3]

Unlike the Demons that inhabit Galuna Island, not all Etherious possess wings and they do not all possess Human forms and those who do lose their Human appearance when transitioning into their Etherious Form.[4] The Etherious can also, at any given time, be transformed back into their book form by their creator, Zeref,[5] and will all cease to exist if he dies.[6]

Curses and Abilities[]

Curses (呪法 Juhō): In stark contrast to the rest of the living organisms capable of doing so, Etherious, or at least Tartaros Etherious in particular, do not make use of Magic, but rather Curses,[7] which accordingly run off of Curse Power (呪力 Juryoku).[8]

Regeneration: Certain Etherious have shown the capacity to self heal to a degree, this healing power is further accelerated via Curse Power.[9] The full release of their Curse Power also triggers their Etherious Form, the process of which also heals any wounds they've been inflicted.[10]

Etherious Form (エーテリアス フォーム Ēteriasu Fōmu): Various members of the Etherious subspecies have displayed the ability to enter a demonized form, in which their appearances change and they gain access to an enhanced set of their already available abilities, something which is dubbed as utilizing the "real power" of the race.[11][12][13] The member of said race Seilah, however, cannot freely enter the form like other members, but instead must turn her own Macro Curse upon herself to remove her own personal "limiters";[14] meanwhile, member Ezel is the only Etherious to give his form a specific name: "Slash Attack Mode" (斬撃モード Zangeki Mōdo).[15]
