Byro tells Sugarboy and Hughes that just like legend says, Earth Land Mages have Magic inside their bodies. Sugarboy notes that it's just like with the Exceeds and Byro replies that that Magic Power cannot be compared to the Exceeds. Coco asks if that girl named Lucy has Magic in her too and Byro says yes. Hughes comments that it would be a waste to kill her and Faust tells him that that's irrelevant because Queen Shagotte of the Exceeds ordered her elimination. While Hughes expresses his regrets on how that would be such a waste, Pantherlily asks what they'll do with the two Dragon Slayers, Natsu Dragneel and Wendy Marvell. Byro tells them that if their experiment is a success, they'll obtain a near-infinite amount of Magic power. Faust orders for Byro to begin immediately and just in case, also speed up the extraction of Magic from the Earth Land lacrima. After Byro agrees to the king's orders, Hughes, Sugarboy, Coco and Byro leave the room but Pantherlily remains. When asked by Faust about what's troubling him, Pantherlily replies that it's about the recent military buildup. This gets a rather dark look on Faust's face. Pantherlily tells him to not mind it and excuses himself as he gets up and leaves.

In her cell, Lucy reiterates to herself her knowledge of the Exceeds. In Edolas, the Exceeds are like angels and their queen, Shagotte, is a god. If her mouth says "die", then a human has no choice but to die. She criticizes the law and calls it ridiculous. At this moment, Erza Knightwalker steps in front of her cell and seems impressed with her research. Knightwalker opens her cell and Lucy asks if everyone is safe, to which Knightwalker replies that they are. Knightwalker adds that she's impressed Lucy can put on such a brave face even in the situation she's in. Lucy notes that Knightwalker is so similar to Earth Land's Erza Scarlet and that she couldn't help but feel at ease even if they're different people. Lucy describes Earth Land Erza to Knightwalker, how she's part of Fairy Tail and how she's strong, cool and a little bit scary but everyone depends on her, which surprises Knightwalker. She adds that Erza is actually quite girly because she loves sweet and cute clothes. However, Knightwalker drags her out to the hall by her hair and tells her that she's not the Erza Lucy knew. Lucy pleads for her to help her because all she wants is to save her friends. She might be a different person but deep down, she and Erza are the same, Lucy comments to Knightwalker. Lucy tells her that she's not a person who laughs at suffering. Knightwalker tells her to shut up and hangs her over the balcony with her spear.

Knightwalker tells Lucy that she will die there. Lucy replies that Erza is not that kind of person and that Erza is kind. Knightwalker calls her a simpleton and tells her that people's suffering is her favorite dish and that she was branded as the "Fairy Hunter" because she has killed countless members of Fairy Tail. Lucy tears up and berates her as she dares say those kinds of things with Erza's face and voice. Knightwalker then throws her off as she says goodbye. As Lucy falls, Happy and Charle fly towards her and save her. They bring her back up to Knightwalker who is surprised.

Charle informs Knightwalker that the order to eliminate Lucy has been rescinded. Knightwalker tells her that even if she's an Exceed, she has no right to reverse an order from the Queen. Charle exudes pride as she tells Knightwalker to know her place because she is Queen Shagotte's daughter, the Princess of Extalia. Knightwalker bows before her and apologizes while Happy and Lucy are wide-eyed in surprise. Charle orders her to release the imprisoned Dragon Slayers. When Knightwalker argues that she doesn't have the authority, Charle states that she doesn't care and that she should just do it. However, Charle's moment of authority is trampled by Pantherlily who came running from the hallway, telling Knightwalker that those two Exceeds are the Fallen. Charle cues Happy that they're going to have to escape and then flies away. Knightwalker is enraged about being fooled and hits the floor. The guards are alerted of the escape of the Fallen and a prisoner. They are ordered to eliminate them on sight.

Charle asks Lucy if she's mad at them because they're the reason she got caught. Lucy tells them that it's all right because they went and saved her anyway. When Happy apologized, Lucy insists that she's not angry one bit and that she's more surprised of the fact that Charle is the princess. Happy is, too. Charle claims that it was obviously a bluff. Happy makes a cheerful face at her and she asks him what he's making that face for. Lucy notices that Charle addresses Happy by his name now. She smiles at the realization as Charle plans to head to the west tower for Wendy and Natsu.

While on the way to the west tower, Extalia's Royal Guards, led by Nichiya, are flying on their tails. Charle suggests they land but Edolas Royal Army Guards are on the ground too. Faust looks at the scene from a balcony. When informed by Coco that the troops are chasing after two of the Fallen, he orders the activation of Code ETD. Horns are blown, Edolas flags are raised and numerous cannon-like cylindrical equipment are placed on the balconies of the Royal Palace. Charle, Happy and Lucy fly into a building just as Code ETD is activated. The cannons fire towards the sky and hit the Exceed troops.
  +
  +
Although they are also puzzled, Charle, Happy and Lucy use the confusion as cover-up as they head for the west tower. Knightwalker realizes this, orders the troops do double up the defenses and goes after them. As Nichiya exclaims that the Queen will not let their deeds pass, all the Exceed troops transform into a giant cat-shaped lacrima and fall to the ground. Faust, on his balcony, declares that there are no gods in their world. While they suffer from limited Magic, the Exceeds revel in their unlimited supply. He asks why can they not obtain the infinity that is so near to them. He proclaims an end to the era in which they are controlled and declares that everything is for the future of humanity for creating a prosperous Magic society. He calls for his soldiers to stand with him in Code ETD: Exceed Total Destruction. Activation of Operation Extermination of Angels is called and the Royal Troops cheer. In the midst of the cheering military, Pantherlily looks on angrily as he realizes that that was the reason for the military buildup. Up in the balcony, Coco informs Faust that the Queen is coming to attack and that the military strength of Extalia is incredible. Faust replies that it is for that reason that they captured the Dragon Slayers, the time has come to shoot down the gods. He orders that the Magic extraction from the Dragon Slayers be started.

Wendy and Natsu are shown to be unconscious and chained to rocks in an unknown place with Byro laughing in front of them. Meanwhile, Charle, Happy and Lucy are running through the tower, discussing the war that has broken out. Suddenly, a spear stops them in their tracks. It is Knightwalker along with some Royal Army soldiers. As Lucy steps forward, Knightwalker activates lightning from her spear, sending Lucy, Happy and Charle backward. Knightwalker steps toward Lucy and prepares to strike the final blow with her spear but Happy tackles her. The lightning from her spear hits the ground and causes Lucy and Happy to burst through. Happy's eyes are closed and while falling, Lucy yells for Happy to wake up and attempts to get near him. Happy apologizes to Natsu for not being able to save him. Momentarily, Happy remembers the moments in which things seemed hopeless but Natsu never gave up and triumphed over his foes. At this moment, Lucy manages to grab Happy and Charle swoops down and catches them both.
  +
  +
Meanwhile, Natsu is screaming in pain as his Magic is being extracted from him. Byro is impressed with the considerable amount of Magic power that they possess. When Wendy asks Natsu if he's all right, Natsu replies that he is and that she better not give up on him. They'll get out of there for sure and that they shouldn't give up hope. Byro chuckles at them and asks if that is part of the toughness of being a Dragon Slayer. He proceeds to extract more Magic from Natsu. Although in pain, Natsu yells for Wendy to not ever give up. Byro turns to Wendy and says that her turn is next. Natsu exclaims that he'll give his Magic Power in Wendy's place.

Lucy's group is hiding in a supply room with no bright ideas on how to retrieve the two Dragon Slayers. Happy starts to wake up and tells that they shouldn't give up, no matter what, because Natsu never did and it's their turn to learn from him. Lucy asks him if he has some kind of plan and Happy looks above at the sacks.

Happy, while carrying a sack, comes bursting through the corridor to the guards and tells them to prepare for his Poison Mist Attack and releases the contents of the sack. At first, they are alerted and try not to inhale. Later, they realize that it's just flour. Happy bursts through the smoke and flies down a different corridor while the guards chase him. Lucy and Charle show up and head down the hall as the guards are distracted. However, their path is blocked once more by Knightwalker and states that she knew they'd try a plan wherein one would attempt a distraction. They hear Wendy and Natsu's screams. Knightwalker reveals that the Magic they need for Code ETD is being stolen from the Dragon Slayers. Some guards come in with a captured Happy and toss him to the ground. As Charle cries and orders for them to give Wendy back, Happy walks in front of her, crying as well. He claims that he won't let them lay a hand on Charle and so Knightwalker decides to start with him.

As Knightwalker is about to deliver a blow to Happy, something bursts from the walls. They are surrounded by an icy mist. Two voices are heard, stating that they won't forgive those who hurts their fellow guild members and that they are all enemies of Fairy Tail. Gray Fullbuster and Erza Scarlet reveal themselves.
