Duke Barbaroa redirects to a disambiguation page. For the real Duke Barbaroa, see Zalam.

Duke Barbaroa (デューク・バルバロア Dyūku Barubaroa) was the Guild Master of Gold Owl.[1] He was a conceptual copy created by Viernes to act as his will after the original's apparent death.[2][3]

Appearance[]

The conceptual Duke Barbaroa resembles the original's appearance prior to his supposed death, being a tall older man, with a thick goatee, and has white hair that is well groomed with a braided ponytail. He wears a nobleman's uniform with a cravat and has a dark eyepatch over his left eye.[1]

Personality[]

Owing to his status as the voice of Vienes, the conceptual Duke is an ambitious man who seeks to make the Dragon Gods his servants through Athena. He is also pragmatic as he allowed God Serena lenience for his failure.[4]

History[]

Sometime after the apparent death of the original Duke Barbaroa, Viernes took control over the Gold Owl Guild, creating this conceptual Duke to act as his voice while he himself became a concept.[2]

Unknown to anyone, Athena had soon broken free from the barrier herself and roamed the world until she unintentionally amassed the White Magic Cult; Rebellious. Recently, still unsatisfied with her role and desiring to feel emotions, the seemingly revived Duke came to her offering to help her case, prompting her to join his guild and requiring the Magic of Dragons and Dragon Slayers to make her complete.[5]

At some point, Duke had also constructed more Dolls with his Alchemy, such as Gennai and Kotetsu,[6] eventually making most of the members that comprised the Guild.[7] Duke also revived God Serena when he came across his corpse, repaired it, and recruited him.[8]

Synopsis[]

Gold Owl arc[]

At the Gold Owl guildhall, Duke Barbaroa rebuffs Ennie's request to kill God Serena for failing to retrieve one of the Dogra Cores, revealing that there are other replacements for the things needed to complete Athena. He then boldly declares that once the White Wizard is completed, all of the Five Dragon Gods will become his servants.[4]
