[[File: Irene warns Zeref.png|thumb|left|200px|Irene tells Zeref to stop being naïve]]

As she continues using her enchantment to remove Fairy Heart from Mavis, Irene expresses sympathy for Fairy Tail's first guildmaster, and explains how Invel's magic snatched away Mavis's ability to think. Zeref enters the guild, and watches Mavis suffer from Irene's magic with a serious expression on his face. He asks Irene if the procedure would take any longer, and is disappointed when Irene confirms this. Although amused when Zeref admits he does not want to see Mavis is pain, Irene reminds him that if he wishes to defeat Acnologia he must rid himself of that naïveté. Reluctantly deciding that Irene's logic makes sense, Zeref excuses himself from the room, but not before giving a tearful Mavis a sad look. Now taking Zeref's place in the room, Neinhart approaches an annoyed Irene and informs her that he has located Erza, who is currently engaged in battle. Irene turns serious, and orders Neinhart to kill the Fairy Tail mage, however, the latter reminds her that his Historia does not work on her. Giving Neinhart a sly grin, Irene tells him to fight Erza himself and remember who he is. Her words frighten Neinhart, who seems to recall something unpleasant.

Irene tells Zeref to stop being naïve

Meanwhile, on the battlefield, Erza manages to take out several soldiers with her Purgatory Armor as Yukino, Lector, and Frosch stand back to admire the redhead's bravery. Elsewhere, Gildarts attacks the army with his Crash, although his allies get caught up in the explosion as well, which annoys Cana. Several battles start to form on the battlefield as well. Elfman and Lisanna face off against Ajeel, while Jacob recovers from Mirajane's last attack, and Rogue and Minerva battle the Historias of Bradman and Wahl. Natsu tries to attack the army with his Fire Dragon's Roar with Lucy, Gray, Happy, and Juvia following behind him, however his attack is instantly frozen. Believing that Gray is responsible for solidifying his magic, Natsu immediately accuses him, but Gray denies this as he and Lucy take notice of the temperature drop. Natsu uses his flames in an attempt to raise the temperature, but they are frozen as well, which shocks him. Suddenly, the whole group is frozen solid, the one being responsible for all this being none other than Invel. Gray, immune to the effects of Invel's magic, panics after his comrades fail to respond, and prepares to attack Invel after realizing he is responsible for solidifying his guildmates. However, Invel hits Gray from the side with a swipe off his hand, which leaves a huge scar on the latter's side. As he introduces himself, Invel continues his assault by attacking Gray with explosions of ice and declares that Gray is no match against his winter. Frightened, Gray realizes that he, an ice mage, is shivering just from Invel's presence. Back in the guild, Mavis begs for her comrades to defeat Invel before her ability to think fades completely.
