The Historia of the Dead is the 481st chapter of Hiro Mashima's Fairy Tail.

Facing Erza's group, Neinhart blasts Jellal and Kagura into the ocean, then uses his Historia of the Dead to populate the battlefield of Hargeon with the phantoms of the past who haunt the minds of the Ishgar warriors. Rescuing Jellal from drowning, Kagura is forced to overlook her grudge against the man in order to resuscitate him.

Summary

Erza faces the enemies from her past

While Neinhart expounds upon the working of his Historia of the Dead, Kagura is left shaken by the vision of her brother that their foe had conjured up, leaving herself open to an attack from the Shield of Spriggan. Jellal manages to jump in and shield her from the blast, but the two are knocked right through the hull of the ship and sent plunging into the depths of the ocean. However, Erza is given no opportunity to worry for her comrades as she is assaulted by the manifestations of Kyôka, Ikaruga and Azuma, who remark that the knight is not in optimal condition for battle. Meanwhile, near the ocean floor, Jellal lies unconscious under a mass of chains and Kagura faces the dilemma of letting an ally die or saving the life of her brother's murderer.

Neinhart praises his own Magic for creating meetings between souls that would otherwise never have known one another, and proceeds to cover the entire city in his Magic. While Gray and Lyon come face to face with their former master, Meredy is confronted by Zancrow, Juvia by Keyes, the Sky Sisters by Ezel and Laxus by Hades. Simultaneously, Erza is easily pushed back by the enemies from her past, who urge her to put on a better performance. Concurrently, Kagura pulls Jellal onto a jetty and, although reluctant to save her archenemy, performs CPR to revive him.
