To Respond in Kind is the 411th chapter of Hiro Mashima's Fairy Tail.

As the dust clears after Mard Geer's casting of his ultimate Curse, Gray reveals that he was able to block the Demon's Curse, but collapses soon after. An enraged Natsu enters Dragon Force and furiously beats back Mard, unleashing a powerful strike on his person. But Mard is undefeated as he grabs Natsu, only to be defeated by a direct hit from Gray's Magic. Meanwhile, Erza attains victory over Kyôka, but is not able to stop the activation of Face.

Summary

Gray demonizes half his body

Mard believes that he has defeated Gray and Natsu with his most powerful Curse, Memento Mori. He smiles in satisfaction, but is flabbergasted when a part of the debris in the crater created by his Curse reveals his opponents severely injured, but still upright.

Mard is astounded to see that half of Gray's body has been demonized and he questions whether this power of Silver's Magic helped Gray nullify the Curse. But, saying that he leaves the future in Natsu's hands, Gray falls to the ground.

Brimming with anger at the fact that his most powerful technique was negated, Mard enters his Etherious Form and rushes towards Natsu, but is furiously beaten back by an equally enraged Natsu, who has now entered Dragon Force. Natsu unleashes a powerful Dragon Slayer's Secret Art on the Demon, sending them both flying into the sky. But he is unable to take him down and also finds himself incapable of maintaining his own ultimate form.

	Mard is finally defeated

Swearing to destroy every bit of flesh on the Dragon Slayer's body, Mard grabs him and heads downwards, only to see Gray staggering to his feet as Natsu states that Mard's endurance of Natsu's Spell while in his most powerful form was impressive, but he still believed in Gray. Mard is stunned to see the Devil Slayer, who had collapsed earlier, back on his feet and falls prey to a direct hit from his Ice Devil's Zeroth Destruction Bow, which finally defeats the Underworld King.

But, even as he falls, Mard telepathically contacts Kyôka, who has also just lost to Erza. She tells him to stop worrying as the countdown to Face reaches its end. Minerva and the others can only watch in despair as they see Face activated.
