Sai traverses the Great Labyrinth in search of the Dogra Cores. After finding one of the cores, he is spotted by Gray Fullbuster, who at first mistakes him for one of his friends. Sai yells that he is not giving up the treasure he found. Before he could go any further, he stops when Gray constructs a wall of ice in front of him. He realizes that Gray is a Mage, and wonders what is doing there.[2]

When Gray questioned him if he was a member of Diabolos, Sai notes about the Dragon Eaters' guild being the number one Mage guild on Guiltina and introduces himself as a member of Gold Owl, the number one Alchemist guild. Sai blankly tells Gray that it would be difficult to explain the differences between Magic and Alchemy, brushing it off. However, he informs the Fairy Tail Mage that the Dogra Core in his hands is his treasure he found and he will not let Gray have it. The Gold Owl member states that the Dogra Core is going to become a crucial alchemy material for expanding his Guild. Sai glares at Gray who intends to fight him before he makes several hand signs to perform his Alchemy, declaring that he is going to change the Ice-Make Mage into another form: Love Bond.[3]

Sai explains to a transformed Gray in Juvia Lockser's body that he trasmuted his "bond" with the woman he is love with and through that bond, Gray has taken her form and lost his Ice-Make powers. He informs his opponent that there is another technique called Rival Bond but states its uselessness due to transforming a target into someone as strong as him, settling for women whom he claims he can crush easily. Raising his hand, Sai adds that his Love Bond has a side effect as well.[4] He scolds Gray for using foul language while in a woman's body but is stunned when his opponent is about to strip in front of him but stopped immediately. Making his move, Sai transmutes Destruction Chain to attack the Fairy Tail Mage. However he is shocked to see Gray dodging his attacks with ease and learns that the woman whom he switched bodies is also a Mage. The Gold Owl alchemist is also shocked after Gray points out that he could have switched him with a woman stronger than him like Erza. Sai questions Gray if all women are usually weak, which his opponent scolds him for such outdated thinking and asks him if there are strong women in the Alchemist Guild. He remembers the Signario Sisters whose name terrifies him and exclaims that he is going to get killed if he didn't bring back the Dogra Core. Throwing his Destruction Chain, Sai yells at Gray to stay out of his way which pierces through his opponent. However, he is shocked to see the Water Form protecting the Fairy Tail Mage. He asks what Gray is muttering about as he stands warily of his enemy about to tap into Juvia's Magic and mistakes Water-Make for Alchemy.[5]

Shocked, Sai wonders what is happening after seeing his opponent transmuting water. He immediately dodges Gray's water spears before he is soaked by his opponent's attempt to hit him with a hammer made of water.[6] He realizes that Gray is dangerous even in another body and decides to break the Love Bond. However, he is then he is struck by the Mage's water battle axe attack before being engulfed by a large spear of water. Getting back on his feet, the alchemist notes that things are not looking good and decides to use his forbidden technique: Weak Bond. While making his hand stances, Sai asks Gray if he has someone he deemed weak to him and seizes the advantage after his enemy seemingly thinks of his answer. Unfortunately, he is shocked to see Gray back to normal and learns that the Ice-Make Mage is really that modest. Sai is struck down by Gray's Ice-Make: Cold Slicer and falls to the floor, defeated. The Dogra Core he held is then destroyed by Gray. Before losing consciousness, Sai weakly mutters for his God brother.[7]

Eventually, Sai regains consciousness and reunites with God Serena outside the entrance of the labyrinth where they encounter an incapacitated Elefseria and Shade. The two members of Gold Owl notice Gajeel Redfox and Panther Lily charging at them. Sai is stunned when the Fairy Tail Mages wonder who he is.[8] When God Serena tells him to deal with them, Sai is happy to oblige as he uses Love Bond on Gajeel, switching his body with that of Levy McGarden. However, it backfires as Sai is immediately struck down by Gajeel who uses Solid Script: Iron in retaliation. He wonders how scary the women of Fairy Tail are before losing consciousness again.[9] He regains consciousness again when the labyrinth starts collapsing and manages to escape.[10]

Алхимия Связи (絆(ボンド)錬成 Bondo Rensei): Sai is able to perform alchemy, capable of transmuting the form of a material into another as his main form of combat. Sai in particular is capable of transmuting others first through their bonds, swapping their bodies, reducing them into a weakened state in order to gain an advantage over them.[11]

  • Любовная Связь (恋の絆(ラブボンド) Rabu Bondo): A transmutation that allows Sai to transmute someone’s “bond” to turn them into the person they love, effectively swapping bodies with each other, no matter the distance the lovers are.[12] This also grants them each other’s respective abilities but lose their original ones in the process.[13]
  • Соперничающая Связь (友の絆(ライバルボンド) Raibaru Bondo): Sai mentions this technique, where like other transmutations involving people's bonds, Rival Bond transmutes a person into someone they consider a rival, who is usually someone as strong as the first person.[14]
  • Слабая Связь (弱者の絆(ウイークボンド) Uīku Bondo): Sai’s forbidden technique, by having a target think about who they know are weak and transmute them into that person. However, this may prove ineffective against those who see themselves as weak, which can also undo any prior transmutation cast on them.[15]
  • Материальная Связь (物質の絆(マテリアルボンド) Materiaru Bondo): Sai swaps someone with materials, placing their consciousness within the item and their body in the place of the item. Those swapped with the item can seamingly still speak despite lacking the body parts necessary for speech.[16]
